Gagglebabble

Gagglebabble Dark Daring Original Spectacular Playful Wild Inventive Live Music Theatre Gagglebabble (Lucy Rivers and Hannah McPake) fuse live music and theatre.

We like tales from the wrong side of the tracks, the stranger side of life, the skeletons in the closet. We aim to bring a vibrancy, immediacy and playful sense of dark humour and to create work that is innovative, immersive and vibrant and crosses boundaries between theatre and other genres. Original theatre that will leave you gagging for more!

Feeling inspired to get out walking now the days are getting longer? Here's a film-poem we made on super 8 film in late summer by poet Chris Kinsey and filmmaker Siôn Marshall Waters. Inspired by a border walk Chris led from Old Churchstoke to the Stone circle on Stapeley Hill.

"Castles are corns in the soles of this contested land.
We're the only ones on this rocky track,
Safe to walk, unarmed across an invisible border."

A poem inspired by a walk from Old Church Stoke to Mitchell's Fold Stone Circle. Part of the Borderlands walking project.

Who knew Bronygarth was the epicentre of supernatural activity! Local landowner James Lloyd takes me on a walk along Offas Dyke where we see portals to the underworld, Witches nests, a neolithic Head, and we visit the 1000 yr old 'Oak at the gate of the dead'!

"They say when it's been raining heavily and the landslips you can see bones in the ground here"

Pentabus, Arts Council of Wales, filmed by Siôn Marshall Waters

It's Welsh Language Music Day! Why not check out this fab song Eliseg by Robin Jones from Trails of Cato https://soundcloud.com/user-915999752/eliseg inspired by the walk we did to the Pillar of Eliseg near Llangollen. We’ve been quiet for a while. Hibernating.
Like everyone else we’ve been readjusting, resetting and eating too many biscuits. Giving birth - to babies and projects.
Wondering what our purpose is.

Connecting with our freelancers and community, in person when we can, or over zoom. Reading, listening to music, walking and watching too much tele. Sometimes it’s felt hard to dream, or plan, or get dressed from the waist down.

We’ve felt weird, wild, lost. Longed to plunge back into a rehearsal room, to embrace our fellow Babblers, bathe in live music, and feel the thrill and magic of live performance.

Sometimes it’s felt hard to see the light in the dark, we’ve felt lost in the woods, all at sea.

But we were thrown a life-jacket and were very grateful to receive some stabilisation funding from Arts Council of Wales and have been busy behind the scenes...we've got a new fully accessible and bi-lingual website gagglebabble.co.uk, we're making plans for the future, and excitingly have made our first online project, Borderlands! Watch this space!

ps. please sign up to our new mailing list if you’d like to keep in the loop with what we’re up to. (We lost our old one, so if you’ve signed up before you’ll need to do so again).
xx
