Macclesfield is celebrating its mighty textile past and thriving creative present this week.
Macclesfield Textile Week brings together artists, makers, schools, charities and local businesses to honour the town’s silk heritage — from cottage‑industry button makers to the 70 mills that once powered a global market.

There’s a full programme of workshops, talks, exhibitions and community showcases across the town from 19–27 September.

🧵✨ Golden Rosebuds – First Stitches
Our gentle, confidence‑building sewing workshop for young creatives aged 8–14 is back — and it’s the perfect way for children to unwind after school while learning a skill that lasts a lifetime.

Over 6 weekly sessions, students will explore the foundations of sewing in a fun, supportive environment. They’ll learn how to safely use a sewing machine, practise essential stitches, work with different fabrics, and complete beginner‑friendly projects designed to spark imagination and pride. Every week builds on the last, helping them grow skills, independence, and creative problem‑solving.

✂️ Intro to Pattern Cutting – 12 Week Course

6 Jan – 24 Mar 2027

Pattern cutting is the skill of creating sewing patterns to your own body measurements — drafting your own bodice, sleeve and skirt blocks, fitting a toile, and learning how to adapt those blocks into real garment designs. It’s the foundation of making clothes that truly fit you.

Over 12 weeks, you’ll learn:

• How to take accurate body measurements
• How to draft your own fitted blocks
• How to create and fit a calico toile
• How to assess fit and transfer adjustments
• How to produce a final cardboard block for future projects
• How to adapt your pattern for different styles

If you’re fed up with clothes that never fit quite right — or you’ve always wanted to understand how patterns really work — this course will change your sewing forever.
