I present Fashion Shows, Talks and Displays. We have presented events for English H

eritage, The Royal Armouries and Edinburgh Festivals. Tudor Costume Talk/Lecture - a very interesting, lively and informative talk about the design/construction and inspiration for my historical gowns, as well as a brief history of the people who wore them. Integral to the event is a display of four costumes on mannequins with headdresses, fans, underwear and jewellery as well as a personal appearance by King Henry VIII. Costumes for Elizabeth I, Mary Queen of Scots and Anne Boleyn are included. Enter the World of Jane Austen – Regency Costume - A very interesting, lively, humorous and informative lecture by Julia Soares-McCormick about the design and construction of gowns worn during the Regency period. Beautifully costumed mannequins will accompany the talk. Included are an ornate gold-encrusted court gown inspired by clothes worn by Empress Josephine, wife of Napoleon Bonaparte – A very pretty white cotton afternoon dress fit for Jane Austen worn with bonnet, chemisette and spencer. Also included is a sumptuous lilac silk ballgown embellished with gold and lilac guipure lace - it is worn with a turban, fan and gloves - a stunning outfit fit for the Netherfield Ball! Underwear and accessories worn during this period will also be included. Period Fashion Shows - My exciting show includes a number of superb costumes I have designed worn by four models. They are accompanied by beautiful period music, a brief history of each historical figure and a talk about the design and construction of each costume. Our show includes Mary Queen of Scots taking off her velvet robes to reveal her elegant execution gown. The Show provides a glamorous and different entertainment for Stately homes and in fact any type of special event. Costume Displays - We present a stunning display of black mannequins beautifully attired in my reproduction clothing complete with all accessories including headdresses, fans and masks. A descriptor of each costume is included. - See more at: http://www.tudortalkandcatwalk.com/about-julia-renaissance-costumes/ .hF7Lwrq6.dpuf

Last Saturday 5 April 2025 I presented my Regency Talk “Enter the World of Jane Austen for ‘The Random Stitcher’s of Cleveland’ a ladies sewing group based in Guisborough.

My ‘Enter the World of Jane Austen – Regency Costume Talk’ with Display is an interesting, lively, humorous and informative lecture about the design and construction of gowns I have created inspired by the Regency period. A display of beautifully dressed mannequins accompanied my talk.

My son James made an appearance dressed as Mr Darcy and assisted me during my talk

One of the ladies stated that she “loved the way in which I discussed the construction of my costumes and relevance of facts of day to day living linked to the history of the economics of the regency period”.

The ladies were also particularly interested in my reproduction of the first pair of knickers ever worn in 1789, which had totally separate legs and were not joined together at all!
The ladies said they really enjoyed my talk and had a fabulous afternoon!

On Thursday 4 April 2024 we presented our Tudor Talk with costume display for the University of the Third Age in Washington Tyne and Wear.

The University of the Third Age (U3A) is an international movement whose aims are the education and stimulation of mainly retired members of the community — those in their third 'age' of life.. There is no universally accepted model for the U3A - apparently its original conception was in France. Over 150 members of the U3a joined us for my popular talk.

We presented a number of my costumes including Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth I and also a personal appearance of King Henry VIII in full regalia.

We enjoyed presenting it and the members enjoyed it too!

We presented our Regency Costume Talk yesterday for the EYES - East Yorkshire Embroidery Society yesterday in Cottingham. It was the second time we have visited the group - having previously presented our Tudor Talk. It went very well - over 90 ladies were there - they made us very welcome and we certainly enjoyed presenting it. The Head of Costume and Fashion Design at Hull attended and I am very pleased to say she said she was very impressed with my talk - both the costumes and content! I also included my new pink Regency Spencer jacket and the ladies were very pleased to see Jamie dressed as Mr Darcy. They have booked us again - next time I will present my new talk - 'Marie Antoinette and what she wore to the Revolution' - we had a great afternoon!

It is the anniversary of Anne Boleyn's Ex*****on on Tower Green on 19th May 1536 so I thought it would share some photographs of my very favourite costume - my Blue Anne Boleyn Gown. I am pleased it has been chosen to grace the cover of a novel called ‘Threads – The Reincarnation of Anne Boleyn’ written by Nell Gavin. I am presenting costume events in 2022 including “Enter the World of Jane Austen, Regency Costume Talk & Display”. Some of my customers mentioned the beautiful costumes worn in ‘Emma’ in 2020 so I decided to re-create an outfit inspired by a costume worn by Emma at the wedding of her governess. A pink ornate spencer worn with a white cotton dress and stovepipe hat - hope you like it! Read more about the design and making on - https://www.tudortalkandcatwalk.com/pink-spencer-jacket/

My sister Carol and I enjoyed a great day in Grassington this Christmas wearing our 19th century inspired costumes for the Dickensian Street Festival. Read about how I designed and created my costume (including pattern details) and see photographs of other costumes of the day. I presented a Tudor Fashion Show a few years ago in the Grassington Town Hall - it was lovely to visit it again!

Had a great evening presenting my Regency Talk for Plessey WI - what a lovely group of ladies - they really made me welcome.
