I did it! Completed the Deadly Dozen in under 2hrs 🎉🎉. In the moment, I wondered what was wrong with my head, why do people sign up for such nonsense? I heard someone say they'd driven 5hrs, another say his mate was repeating it at 2pm - I am not alone in being crazy!

Thankfully Michele Adams also signed up, so I didn't DNS and she boosted my morale first thing after I shed a few tears. She also beat me by a healthy 8 minutes.

I've already gone from 'never again, wtf' to 'ooooh nxt year maybe I'll be quicker. The set up was brilliant, the judges really supportive, the Bling - worth it! And you get a velcro patch too.

Respect to the two people that completed the Deadly Mile, 400m of lunges, 400m burpee broad jump, 400m bear crawl and 400m run. No thank you! My knees were grazed just from the lunges and burpees on the grass!

Huge thanks to Laura Such, and Jayne Barmby: both brilliant PT's who got my weights so high, and endlessly encouraged me.

Tada! From start to finish in less than 12hrs! Thanks to the help and knowledge of Vicky at The Good Stitch.

Mine does not seem to hang on me as well as the pattern photo, but I don't have the same body as the mannequin. Funny that.

I think my chosen fabric might be a tad lighter than the one pictured. The photo of me, taken by a tired husband, under dim light, not standing particularly straight, in black leggings, with a slope shoulder and sleeves not yet folded up. All these things make it different. But it IS Me-Made.

This morning, from a hanger, in the sunshine it looks beautiful. I've popped it on for the short walk to the GP surgery. Ran out of time to take photos before hand, so those'll come later.

Any errors are mine alone. I did not want pockets, I think I made the right choice - especially as I overfill pockets, and this is more of a coverup than a carry everything cardi.

"No more fabric" I said to my Hub as I left this morning, with my Sussex Seamstress pattern in hand. "I don't need more material..." I told myself as I drove South. At least that's what I thought.

I got down to The Good Stitch and decided the fabric I had wasn't something I'd wear, and Vicky had THE softest, drapiest fabric, in plain black, which looked perfect.

We measured, worked my size down from 22 to 14 (dressmaking sizes look at your bust, hips and waist, then you suss out where you're at, so can vary depending on what you are making), cut out pattern pieces, overlocked, pressed and...

Yup, 2 1/2 hrs later I ran out of time. However, the is quick to assemble - with the right brain on hand. If my overlocker were fully functioning, I'd have a new cardi by dinner.

So yes. I bought the luscious lilacy blue, to make a second cardigan. I've all but worn out my shop bought waterfall cardi, so this is long overdue! Not to mention, £26 for the fabric is less than I'd pay for a ready made cardigan, but this is gonna be made to measure and have all the additional bells and whistles 🎉.

Now, I need to find a youtube video to rethread my overlocker, and pray that is sufficient to make it work again.

Thanks Vicky, thanks Sussex Seamstress! Soon I'll have me two gorgeous light weight, me made cardigans. Perfect for evenings - if the weather ever cools!

I got to watch this at the cinema today. Mostly in peace, in glorious big sound. Grateful that Hub encouraged me, as I was feeling MumGuilt for leaving the family at home to indulge.

There were less than 20 people in the room (I'd guess) but apparently some people were surprised by the film, and left an hour in...

Did they not know it would be terrible/pure cheese given that Dwayne Johnson was in it? And that most of the world has seen, or heard songs from, the original?

Does anyone else still expect the ratty old flip seats from the 90's? I always stand kinda tentatively afterwards. I was the last to leave, a good 5 minutes after everyone else, as I was enjoying the credit music.

That was film 7 of my three month unlimited pass, so I might well be renewing. I've already got at least 4 October/November films lined up. The one thing I won't do, is go for an evening showing - the parking is plenty, but the stress for me, spoils the film.

Happy Monday! I slept really well. My poor Teen didn't - it's 10° hotter over in Spain. Hopefully tonight he'll be sparko after travelling yesterday and only a few hours zzzz.

I have had a productive morning. Mown the lawn, sewing the straps and planning what to take to the Open Sew class on Thursday I forgot I booked 🤦🏾‍♀️🤣.

I'm not going to the gym today. I'm heading in to London later, to meet my friend from Hong Kong. We only get to catch up once a year, when she comes home for summer. In Hong Kong when the kids were small, we saw each other every couple of weeks. The Teens hung out last summer, but not this one.

Life is sweet. Aprons coming together nicely. I am in my happy place.

The Teen got away ok 🎉✈️, my stress levels dropped. They woulda been lower, except for my sewing machine deciding it needs a holiday.

I changed the needle as it was kerchunking, even though it was still stitching fine. No joy. Took the needle plate off and de-linted it, but still noisy.

I've a few more things to try, otherwise it'll be a trip down to Sunny Worthing to The Good Stitch to get my machine serviced. In the mean time, I'll dig out my original baby - the Brother I bought on my first maternity leave, with my unexpected annual bonus!

I'm loving the waxed cotton, it's so easy to work with, I might end up buying more 🤣.

Ended the day at a barbecue with good friends, reminiscing about 18th birthday parties, first pubs and first legal drinks. And eating great food.

The weekend is rolling away, with some Hawaii 5-0 and cider - ooh and some hotel chocolat chocolate.

Have a geeat week!

It's a busy day. Kinda. Teen is off on holiday, but not yet packed. Me and his Dad are trying to wait for him to ask for any help he needs. Not jump in on his chill vibe.

Luckily, I have learnt to regulate my emotions somewhat, as internally I am a nervous wreck! My friend invited me for an early run. We did a perfect chatty four miles. I've eaten and drunk. I have my calming positivity playlist on. I'm now cutting fabric - simple.straight apron straps.

The sun is shining, we've a barbecue at a friends later. Perfect Sunday!

Hope you have a great day!

Hello! How is it August? Or is it 'Oh-Just...'?
Oh just do it?

My MH has been weird the last few weeks: adjusting to Teen finishing school, to younger Teen being on summer hols, to going/being away, to Teen going away, to lack of exercise, to not being enough.

So, I'm gonna JUST be kinder to me. For August I'm gonna go back to daily little things.

I'm gonna attempt. No, I plan to walk every day for 30 minutes.

I will listen to my positivity play list once a day if not more.

I will try EFT daily again.

I will sew (or do sewing prep) daily.

I got a free 'calendar' with my elavate collagen, (which after a month wasn't sticking or showing benefits, so I won't be continuing but I will use up the powder I have as a protein boost) that I can use as a habit tracker.

And I will cut back my scrolling time.

Oh, and I will show more photos of my bags.

I hope you have a healthy, relaxed August. Surrounded with good people, tasty food and fun times.

Ttfn 9:32am time to get up!

Woohooo! It is done. I finished my apron. Not sure yet if I put it up for sale, or keep it for me.

I'm 5ft 3 and it ends just below my knees. I made the neck a fixed length. Strap is made from apron fabric. Pocket is an unusual shape as I used the curved scrap I'd cut already.

On my dummy run, I noticed that the top half needs to be a little shorter: it ties on the top of my butt, not the small of my back. That's the purpose of a toile though.

Now on to make the three for a customer! Happy Friday! How is it the end of July already? 2026 is flying by!
