We have just been made aware of this open communication that has been sent out by where they are looking to develop a “semi regular textile focused market throughout the year” … something we at CLOTH had been striving to do since its inception in 2018 at this venue.

We have always believed in a textiles only selling event in Scotland, so can you help them find a willing partner?

“Hello all!
Slightly left of field request here. Hope you don’t mind the message
I work for Dovecot Studios, primarily around venue hire rather than exhibitions.
We have long been looking for a regular market partner. But I think there is just enough time to get something together before Christmas. Potentially in December as I feel there are to many markets across the city on the same weekends meaning it’s impossible to get to more then a couple each year as a customer.
We have three spaces of various sizes so the event could stretch or shrink accordingly.
However my hope would be to host it in the round on the viewing balcony. With high quality independent makers.
We just finished hosting for fringe a repeats client Dazzle jewelry month long showcase, and we have had a couple of clothing pop ups in association with the current exhibition on IKEA textiles.

My request is three fold:
1) does anyone have good contacts for market operators who may be open to looking at new venues.
2) if we were unable to find a partner, and ran the event ourselves, would there be appetite to attend.
3) beyond Christmas there is interest to run a semi regular textile focused market throughout the year. Again if this is of interest reach out, either as a co organiser or as an attendee with ideas.
We have run markets here in the past before my tenure, but I’ve advised not to revisit those specific offerings.
I have spoken to a couple of lovely operators so far, but they are locked into venues and happy where they are at the moment.

Tomorrow would have seen CLOTH #24 PTII open at a central location in Edinburgh but as previously mentioned our venue let us down … however we still want to celebrate are our wonderful makers who’d committed to showing their gorgeous wares as part of CLOTH #24 PTII … they are as follows…



















Please give them a follow, a like + look up their websites + selling pages, we are sure … nae … convinced you won’t be disappointed with both the quality + diversity of these brilliant makers!

In light of our CLOTH #24 venue letting us + the makers we support/promote, down badly with this years event - emails from the 14th of June remain unanswered, as do the follow up phone calls … no responses given … it’s really disrespectful + very disappointing that this should be the case … however … in light of the mess they put us all in we want to give a big shout out to all the brilliant makers who did bother to commit + who would have been ready to show off their fantastic wares from 10.00 on the 11th of August, had things gone plan!

Sadly, we have negative news to impart.

There has been a break down of trust, confidence, and communication with the venue. We have decided that we cannot in all true faith move forward with this project. It is not fair to our creative practitioners who were successful with their applications.

So with this knowledge, we are announcing the cancelation of CLOTH #24. There will be no textiles event at this venue this August under the CLOTH banner and wont be in the future under the current regime.

We feel it would be fraudulent of us to move forward with this project whilst working with this particular venue with designer/makers valuable resources. As makers ourselves we have far too much respect for those who signed up for CLOTH #24.
