THE ORIGINS OF STREETWEAR: MORE THAN JUST FASHION

When you look at streetwear today, it's easy to see the trainers, hoodies, oversized silhouettes, designer collaborations and social media influencers.

But what if streetwear was never really about fashion at all?

What if it was actually about identity?

Long before luxury brands embraced sneakers and before celebrities turned streetwear into a global industry worth billions, it was born from something much more authentic. It emerged from communities that wanted to create their own culture rather than follow someone else's.

In the 1970s and 1980s, young people in cities around the world were creating movements that would eventually shape fashion forever. Skateboarders customised their clothing because mainstream brands didn't understand their lifestyle. Graffiti artists transformed neglected urban spaces into giant canvases of self-expression. Hip-hop artists created entirely new visual identities that reflected their music, their communities and their ambitions.

Streetwear became a language.
