Every August, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo brings the best of British military ceremony together with performers from across the world, closing each night with fireworks over the Castle. Seven years ago, we partnered with and to create a cloth worthy of it. A Midnight Blue herringbone, flecked with gold, blue and red, the same colours found in a Hebridean sunset and in the crests of the Armed Forces themselves.
As Brigadier David Allfrey, the Tattoo’s producer, put it: “I was entranced by the colours. The tweed seemed to embody the landscape, always in sight of the sea, the weather, the traditions and the dignity of Hebridean communities with their music and their craft.”
Worn here on the harbour wall, the tweed does exactly what it was designed to do: carry a piece of the islands, and a piece of the Tattoo, into daily wear.
