World Cup nations, woven in tartan. Next up: Sweden. 🇸🇪

Tartan isn’t just for clans. It can celebrate countries, shared roots and northern stories that go back centuries.

The Swedish Tartan was the first design in our Nordic Tartans Collection, created in 2004 and registered in 2005. It was approved by Torvald Colliander, then Consul General in Edinburgh.

The design brings together the colours of the Swedish and Scottish flags: two subtly different blues, white, and that unmistakable Swedish yellow.

Scotland and Sweden share over 900 years of connection, from Viking influence in Scotland to Scottish soldiers who settled in Sweden after the Kalmar Wars. A proper Nordic-Scottish thread, woven into one bold tartan.

World Cup nations, woven in tartan. Next up: England. 🏴

Tartan isn’t just for clans. It can celebrate countries, neighbours and the complicated, connected histories we share.

The England Tartan was designed for citizens of England to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Union between Scotland and England.

Its colours bring together the flags of both nations, weaving the red and white of St George’s Cross with the blue and white of Scotland’s Saltire.

A tartan for English heritage, Scottish connection and the long shared story between two nations.

World Cup nations, woven in tartan. Next up: Norway. 🇳🇴

Tartan isn’t just for clans. It can celebrate countries, friendships and the old stories that still shape who we are.

The Norwegian Centennial Tartan is part of our Nordic Collection - https://internationaltartans.co.uk/collections/nordic-tartans - blending the red, white and blue of Norway’s flag with the blue and white of Scotland’s Saltire.

It was commissioned to mark Norway’s centenary of independence in 1905, and created in collaboration with Norwegians and Norwegian-Scots under the guidance of Consul-General Arne Sivertsen.

Scotland and Norway share deep roots, from Viking history and coastal connections to the Christmas tree gifted from Norway to Edinburgh each year. A proper northern friendship, woven in wool.

Many of you will have followed Craig Ferguson's incredible Tartan Trek across America, where he walked more than 3,000 miles in a kilt and raised over ÂŁ1.15 million for Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH).

Sadly, the very kilt that made the journey has gone missing in New York and has not yet been found.

If you know anyone in New York, or fancy helping spread the word, please share. Let's see if we can help bring this well-travelled kilt home.

World Cup nations, woven in tartan. Next up: France🇫🇷

Tartan isn’t just for clans. It can celebrate countries, friendships and alliances that go back centuries.

The Auld Alliance French Tartan brings together the colours of the French Tricolour and Scotland’s Saltire, honouring one of Europe’s oldest friendships.

Originally commissioned in 2004 by Mme Olga Poivre d’Arvor, Director of the French Institute in Scotland, the tartan commemorates the Auld Alliance, formed between Scotland and France in 1295. Politics, trade, culture, a wee bit of shared mischief… this one has history woven right through it.

A tartan for Franco-Scottish friendship, shared heritage and anyone who feels a bond with France.

World Cup nations, woven in tartan. Next up: Egypt

Tartan isn’t just for clans. It can celebrate countries, communities and cultural ties that stretch across continents.

The Egypt Tartan is part of our Tartans for Africa Collection, created to strengthen the friendship between Scotland and Egypt while supporting community enterprises and humanitarian projects.

Designed over 18 months between 2006 and 2007, it was developed with Egyptian-Scots, who helped choose the colour balance and composition of the design.

Its colours draw on the Egyptian Tricolour, with golden yellow representing Egypt’s national emblem, the Eagle of Saladin. A bold tartan with history, symbolism and purpose woven through it.

World Cup nations, woven in tartan. Next up: Japan

Tartan isn’t just for clans. It can celebrate countries, seasons, stories and the friendships woven between cultures.

And for Japan, we don’t have just one tartan. We have four.

Our Japanese Four Seasons Collection celebrates the beauty of the changing year, with a tartan for each season: Sakura for spring, Chouchou for summer, Kiku for autumn, and Nihon for winter.

The collection honours the long-standing links between Scotland and Japan, from the first treaty between Japan and the UK in 1858 to the arrival of Thomas Blake Glover, the “Scottish Samurai”, in Nagasaki in 1859.

Four seasons. Four tartans. One shared story of colour, craft and connection.

Now the hard part: which one would you choose?
