Some October dates for your diaries....a busy month!
The first H&H meeting of the new season is on Sat Oct 3rd with a demo of fabric brooch making by Linda Retson.
Sat. 24th is our annual Ruralympics at Websters in Kirriemuir.
Quiz night, held in the Reid Hall, Forfar is on Oct 26th.
Details of how to enter should be with your secretaries now.
If you're not much of a quizzer but like being involved we are looking for some volunteers to help with teas on the night!
So whether you enjoy crafting, sports, quizzing or are a dab hand at pouring tea there's something to get involved in for everyone.

Almost September and many of our institutes will be meeting after a summer break.
There are a couple of new faces who have volunteered to join as Federation office bearers.
Lynn Slater from Letham and District, is our new Vice Chair and Kristine Tunstall joined us a few months ago as Treasurer.

Please share, the National Ruralympics Competition is back, hosted by Ross-shire & Sutherland Federation on Saturday 10 October at Dingwall Academy!

This fun and friendly competition brings Federations together to test their teamwork, skill, and sporting spirit. Entries must go through your Federation, deadline is Monday 31st August.

Help shape the future through research 🔬

At SWI, we aim to support learning across all ages. By supporting research projects led by university students and researchers, our members can play an important part in creating knowledge that benefits future generations. It's a wonderful example of intergenerational working and as easy as just sharing your experiences and opinions today to help inform tomorrow's research, policy and support.

We've been asked to share two research projects from students at University of Glasgow, and if you're eligible, we'd encourage you to consider taking part.

How do you view ageing? 🧠
Trainee Clinical Psychologist, Heather Archer, is exploring how people's perceptions of ageing relate to their wellbeing, with the aim of improving understanding and support for older adults.

Who can take part?
✔️ Aged 60 or over
✔️ Living in the UK
✔️ Able to complete the survey independently

Public attitudes to sentencing in Scotland ⚖️
MSc student, Louis Kennedy, is researching public views on sentencing in Scotland, including the possible introduction of suspended sentences. Women are currently underrepresented in the research, so the study is particularly keen to hear from women of all ages and backgrounds.

Who can take part?
✔️ Aged 18 or over
✔️ Living in Scotland

(Takes around 10–15 minutes and is completely anonymous)

Winner of the Lundie Gavel for the institute with the most new members this year was awarded to Cortachy SWI

The National Spoken Word Competition was hosted by Angus Federation this year. Teams from all over Scotland took part.
Our home teams, Letham and District/Menmuir and Kingsmuir were not national winners this time but did us proud.

The combined team from Letham and District and Menmuir were awarded the Mary Helen Winsor Trophy, having achieved the most points for the Angus teams. Well done to everyone who took part.
