Before a design becomes something you can wear, it begins here — with black ink, quiet focus and the steady rhythm of repetition.

Each mandala is drawn slowly, line by line. Not rushed. Just pen, paper and presence.

These patterns aren’t created for decoration alone — they’re reflections. Of growth that isn’t linear. Of resilience built over time. Of the layers we carry within us.

And this is how it began…

Porcelaine Star in the making.

When I first started drawing this design, I thought I was simply exploring a new idea. A new pattern. A new direction.

I didn’t realise I was laying the foundations of something much bigger.

It wasn’t just a new way of drawing.
It wasn’t just the beginning of a collection.
It was the quiet beginning of Chalk & Char.

Line by line, this piece held everything that would come to define the brand — contrast, balance, repetition, depth. The interplay of light and shadow. Structure and flow.

At the time, I couldn’t see where it would lead. I was simply following my instincts.

Some beginnings announce themselves loudly.
This one arrived softly.

A sketch.
A star.
A turning point.

My Story

Black and white has always felt like truth to me. Honest. Uncomplicated. Crisp. Powerful.

Chalk & Char grew naturally from that way of seeing — a brand grounded in the idea that contrast reveals clarity.

Every design begins in black ink and quiet reflection.

Intricate mandalas. Monochrome illustrations. Layered compositions shaped by rhythm and repetition. As a surface pattern designer, I’ve long been drawn to geometry — to the way repeating forms create balance, and how patterns so often mirror our own lives. Growth isn’t linear. Healing isn’t tidy. We move through light and shadow, challenge and resilience, chaos and calm.
I wanted to translate that understanding into something tangible — something you could wear. Not just as clothing, but as a reflection.

Chalk represents lightness — ideas, hope, the spark that keeps you moving forward even in uncertainty. Char represents depth — grounding, strength, the imprint left by experience.
Together, they hold the balance.

This isn’t just clothing to me. It’s wearable art. Intentional design. Sustainable pieces created to feel personal — like quiet reminders woven into fabric. Each one carrying symbolism of where you’ve been and who you’re becoming.
