ZOO BUYER, DAVID’S DROP NOTES:
Let’s be honest, navigating that weird transitional gap between peak summer heat and early autumn chills is always a bit of a styling headache. You need something lightweight, but with enough visual weight to actually feel like a complete look. Enter Yohji Yamamoto.
Building off the aggressive, predatory energy of SS26's 'Beast' series, Y-3’s first AW26 drop has just landed on our desks. It’s an absolute masterclass in Tokyo street culture, and we need to talk about the hero piece: the Yaksha Souvenir Jacket.
If you aren't familiar with a Sukajan (the classic Japanese souvenir jacket), here’s the quick rundown. Post-WWII, American GIs stationed in Japan started getting their military jackets custom-embroidered by local artisans with dragons, tigers, and maps to take home as literal souvenirs. It’s a staple of rebel street culture.
Fast forward to 2026, and Yohji has completely re-coded this vintage classic. Instead of the usual traditional motifs, he’s unleashed the Yaksha. In Japanese mythology, a Yaksha is essentially a fierce, fiery guardian spirit or nature demon. Think less "friendly ghost" and more "mythological badass."
Y-3 has taken that fierce energy and boldly embroidered a fiery red Yaksha mask straight across the back of a premium stretch-satin shell, with flame graphics that literally creep up over the shoulders and sleeves.
But because it's Y-3, it’s not just loud for the sake of being loud. It’s highly engineered. The jacket uses recycled polyester to give it a slick metallic sheen, grounded by tonal zip closures, ribbed cuffs, and that signature Yohji relaxed drape.
The genius of this jacket is how effortless it is to style. You don't need to overthink the rest of the fit. Throw this over a crisp black t-shirt and some wide-leg tailored trousers or premium track pants, and let the embroidery do all the heavy lifting.
