Today marks 2 years since losing my beautiful Nana, and not a single day goes by where I don’t think about her. 🤍
For those who don’t know, “That’s Sew Silky” was named after her, keeping her surname, Silk, alive in something so close to my heart. She was the reason I fell in love with crafting in the first place. From being tiny, sitting beside her learning to knit, crochet and create, to adult me perched on the end of her bed watching Create and Craft together while chatting away for hours… those are memories I’ll treasure forever.
My Nana was so much more than just a Nana to me. She was the most nurturing, maternal and loving person I’ve ever known. She adored my littles like they were her own babies, every phone call started with “How are my babies?” before she’d even ask about me, and honestly, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
She was one of my biggest supporters, and I know she would be the proudest Nana in the world seeing what this little business has become over the last couple of years. What started from me wanting a keepsake made from her clothing, something truly personal and centred around the person we love, became a business helping others through grief, celebrating new life, and creating comfort through every stage in between.
Every bear, blanket and keepsake I make carries a piece of that love she taught me. The care, the detail, the sentiment behind every stitch, that all comes from her.
Thank you, Nana, for teaching me not only how to craft, but how to love deeply, care endlessly and create things that mean something. Your hands may not be here anymore, but your love is stitched into every single thing I make.
Forever my biggest inspiration.
Forever my Nana.
Forever Silky. 🤍
