From the J. Moreno Collection | An asymmetric dress of pleated silk and plain-woven piña fabric features calado embroidery embellished with sequins, glass beads, and faux pearls.

The flounce detail on the skirt and intricate floral needlework hint at a strong European influence.

The satin stitch embroidery is a stylized rendering of the sampaguita (Jasminum Sambac), considered to be the national flower of the Philippines, symbolizing purity, fidelity, hope, grace, and resilience.

The sampaguita motif is typical of most Philippine needlework.
In every detail, in every pattern, in every material, fashion history is embroidered.
