🐝 Ever wondered why we're called Lullabee Fabrics?

Many of you have asked, so here's the story...

We've been passionate beekeepers for over 12 years, caring for our own hives and volunteering our time to rescue honey bee swarms—completely free of charge. Bees have always been a huge part of our lives and the inspiration behind Lullabee Fabrics.

This week we were called to Aylestone, where a swarm had made an old abandoned box in a local resident's garden their home for around 3 weeks. As the homeowner was allergic to bee stings, we were happy to help.

After almost 5 hours, the queen, brood and enough honey stores were safely transferred into a takeaway hive. 🌅 This evening, once all the bees have returned by sunset, they'll be moved to their forever home in our garden apiary. 🐝💛

Our day started at 6:00am, and after opening the box we couldn't believe what we found. In all our years of beekeeping, we'd rarely seen a swarm grow so quickly into such a huge colony. They'd already produced nearly 40kg of surplus honey! 🍯

And yes... the bees gave us a few kisses! 😅🐝 To be fair, who likes someone turning up at 5am, walking into their home without permission and asking them to move house? 😂🏡🍯

Beekeeping isn't just about collecting honey. Every colony faces challenges from varroa mites, foulbrood, wasps, Asian hornets, harsh weather and even losing their queen bee.

Last winter was especially tough, and sadly we lost 6–7 colonies. reminding us just how fragile these amazing insects can be.

Despite the early mornings, sticky honey, heavy lifting and the occasional bee kisses, we wouldn't change it for the world. Watching a rescued colony settle into a safe new home makes every minute worthwhile. 💛🐝💛
