Hello everyone💗

I just wanted to pop on here to say hello, and share a little about the person behind these squares!

I'm Esther, the designer/maker behind Esther B

I have a degree in Design Management, and have had an interesting and circuitous career. After uni I worked for Designer Brands, then in Fashion Buying, then IT Consultancy and back to my creative designer/maker roots.🖼🎨🧵🪡

I actually started the Esther B brand quite a long time ago in 2007 (before Instagram was even a thing!). So I guess you could call it vintage!💚

When I started Esther B, I was designing and making evening bags and other accessories-all handmade from vintage silks and laces and other beautiful objects that I had collected over the years and repurposed into new pieces. They were featured in various exhibitions and fashion shows and even international press including Tatler magazine!📖

This was the beginning of my sustainable journey - where I had a passion to make beautiful things out of items that may have otherwise been forgotten or discarded. 💚🗝

I decided to pause EstherB when I had my children to become a full time mum ❤️

The years passed by and then when the pandemic happened, I started another little side project/biz called Squiggly Studio, which was to share positive vibes during difficult times with my graphic designs printed onto organic cotton tees and totes.🌈💗 During this time I also started using Instagram for the first time (the luddite that I am!) 😂🤪

Back to the present day. I wanted to pick up again with Esther B. I have lots of designs and makes from before and so many beautiful vintage items I have yet to reuse, plus my newer nature artworks as well as lots of ideas and designs that were flying around in my head, that I felt didn't fit into Squiggly Studio (which is mainly graphic designs), so I've decided to restart Esther B.

This time around it's incorporating new elements - with my organic pressed flower artworks and watercolours as well as lots of other eco crafty things, and I hope to share some of my previous work wth you in due course. I'm currently planning a new website for everything. 💻

I think you my have gathered from my content that I'm a nature lover. I love being outdoors (ideally with the family!) and love pottering in the garden, and I love nature in all it's glorious and colourful forms. 🌿🌸🌼

Sorry that was so long! The main reason I wanted to pop on was to say thank you for joining me on this new/old(!) adventure. I'm excited for this new chapter and to share here with you, and thank you so much for your support and lovely likes and comments, I really appreciate them all💕

Happy weekend everyone! Here's to hoping the sun shines!🌞

Love Esther 💗

Happy Friday!🩷

A few pics from Harewood House in Yorkshire we visited recently. The house was built in the 18th century and has a wonderful and varied collection of arts including works by contemporary artists and craftspeople and paintings by masters of the Italian Renaissance, including family portraits by Reynolds, Hoppner and Lawrence. JMW Turner visited as a young artist aged just 22 to paint the house and its landscape.🎑

Harewood is currently running the third Harewood Biennial Create / Elevate which celebrates the power of craft to surprise, inspire, and bring people together to imagine new worlds. Presented within Harewood House and across its landscapes and gardens, it brings together the work of 16 British and international artists, designers, and craft collectives, including four major new commissions.🖼

Showcasing a range of arts and crafts techniques, the exhibition shows how artists use craft for cross-generational knowledge sharing. It offers fresh perspectives on Harewood’s collections while exploring timely themes, including local and global ecologies.💚

The contemporary exhibits provide new ways to engage with the centuries of craft artistry embedded within the interiors of Harewood House. Create/Elevate shows how artists and makers work collectively to affect societal change and promote social equity. Exhibits encourage fresh ways for audiences to engage the spaces and gardens of Harewood House, including actively, playfully, and multi-sensorially.🩷

It's well worth a visit if you live near or you’re visiting the area!

Happy weekend everyone, hope it’s full of sunshine🌞

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

I enjoyed a wonderful weekend away in York last weekend, and managed to pop into York Art Gallery to see Monet’s iconic ‘The Water-Lily Pond’ painting and accompanying exhibition - currently residing in York.

For the whole year, the National Gallery are celebrating their Bicentenary with a year-long festival of art, creativity and imagination. As part of the programme of events to celebrate their 200 years - 12 of the nation’s most iconic and well-loved paintings from the collection are being lent to 12 venues across the UK. For the duration of the displays, 35 million people – more than half the UK population – will be within an hour’s journey of a National Gallery masterpiece.

Paintings including, Constable’s The Hay Wain, Turner’s  Fighting Temeraire and Monet’s The Water-Lily Pond have travelled to regional centres such as Bristol, Newcastle and York. For some of the works, not least the The Wilton Diptych and Botticelli’s Venus and Mars, it is the first time that they have left the gallery since they were acquired.

Each of the partner venues is marking the national treasure's stay with events, exhibitions, and digital interventions to showcase their works.

The Monet exhibition in York also features the work of contemporaries he inspired, as well as more modern artworks and a new commission. The exhibition reveals how Monet’s radical approach to painting had, and continues to have, an enduring influence on artists.🩷

Happy Friday! 🌞

Over the years I’ve always enjoyed gardening but found with a young family and the busyness of life that there wasn’t always enough time. During the pandemic, like so many people, I found great comfort for any time we were able to spend outdoors, and it also offered a chance to reconnect with gardening and growing again. 🌱

Since then I’ve committed to growing more and more fruit and veg each year - we don’t have a large garden, but it’s surprising how much you can grow in a small corner or patio/balcony - most of this was grown in a small area or on space-saving ladder planters which are brilliant for vertical planting. The kids really enjoy planting seeds and caring for the plants too - watching the lifecycle of the plants as they grow and then the reward of eating homegrown organic produce is incredibly rewarding and nourishing - not only for the body but also for the soul. Getting hands in the earth, noticing nature, taking time away from the busyness of life - I’m sure homegrown plants are tastier because of all the love and care put into caring for them!  💗💚🍓🥕🍅🥒🌞

Happy weekend everyone, hope it’s full of sunshine 🌞💕
