— celebrate an abundant harvest season —

I enjoyed the autumn equinox 秋分の日 on the 22nd of September in Japan.

We had hot weather on the first week when I arrived in Japan. This week has been cooler. Rice harvesting is almost done this year and cluster amaryllis is blooming in forests and fields. 
The photo I took on top of the hill in Izu Peninsula overlooking Sagami Bay has a field of pampas grass. This scene reminded me of my Furoshiki OTSUKIMI, in which I used a motif of pampas grass and a full moon for the design.

The Japanese celebrate the harvest and marvel at the passing of the seasons. This festival is called Otsukimi お月見 ‘moon viewing’.
The beauty of the full moon is admired with displays of seasonal produces as offerings to the moon and decorations made from Susuki すすき, Japanese pampas grass.

We moved to autumn this week according to the traditional micro-calendar in China and Japan on the 7th of August.

5 days super micro calendars will be 涼風 “cool breeze”, 蝉 “cicada’s voice”, and 深霧　“dense fog” for the next two weeks.

Ochugen is a mid-year presents in Japanese culture given to those we feel grateful for.
