HAPPY SPRING EQUINOX!!

I feel so very ready for this.
I’ve been Spring Cleaning through the house and garden like a thing possessed!
Probably more importantly though, I’ve been taking some time to Spring Clean inside my head, if you know what I mean, getting rid of things that no longer serve me in favour of those I really need and which bring me joy.

Prioritise what brings you joy! What is that for you?

Grabbing every spare moment this week to work on this WIP!

It’s in English Rib, which is a really easy way to create some interesting texture in your knitting - front is K1, P1 and the back is just Purl - which I think looks lovely and I’m always tempted to make that side the front!!

This WIP had been abandoned in a bag for the past few months until last week when I rescued it! The back was done and so was part of the front, but now I’m on the second sleeve, so it should be all finished and onto the blocking mats by the end of the week!

I’m eager to get this one finished because I already have my next project planned and I can’t wait to get started on it, but I’m off to school soon, just as a volunteer these days, to help with reading, so I’ll pick it up again later!

I am getting so excited for the arrival of Spring!

(still 30 days to go until Spring officially begins on 20th March though sadly 😞)

But, after having a brilliant time yesterday afternoon with the boys, wandering around in nature, through the trees, by the water and under blue skies and sunshine, my spirits were lifted and I feel so hopeful!

I’m really looking forward to having all my outside pots and containers bursting with beautiful, colourful Spring flowers - which will look nothing like these wooly ones! 😂

Good morning Monday Morning - again. February really seems to be flying by.
Don’t you sometimes wish you could just slow it all down?
2 of my grandsons have their birthdays today, one is 15 and one is 12. I do wish they’d all stop growing up so quickly. 😔

Anywho, just sharing a picture of a second adult sized knitted sleeveless top / vest / tank top, in calm, neutral shades of cream and brown.

To all those with kids at home this half term week, I’m sending you all the calm vibes.

FAIR PRICING.

Always the trickiest part of selling my knits is pricing them.

There is no set formula to follow, as how do you put a price on the things you can’t see, the things you can only feel, which are such an integral part of making by hand.

Obviously I love what I do and am thrilled when you do too, so it is very important to me that my prices are fair to us all - worthwhile to me and good value to you!

I knit with good quality, mostly British wool, which is sold by weight and priced per ball or skein - so I weigh my finished items to see how much wool I have actually used and start from there.

Also, I thought this bright and jolly picture of me weighing a jumper on my kitchen scales would help to brighten up this dull and dreary hump day morning!

Just a couple of pages from my design book, complete with crossings out, mistakes, changes and colour samples.
Believe me, there’s been a lot of rubbing out before getting to this stage - if I showed you my initial scribbles, you’d begin to understand how long this process takes me!

As you can see I’m on a bit of a flower thing just now and am taking inspiration from the iconic designs of Orla Kiely.

I’ve been asked several times if I sell my patterns, to which the simple answer is No.
‘ My patterns’, such as they are, are a fusion of the basics, absorbed over the years from printed patterns, influences from other designers and makers and my need to put my own stamp on them and make them my own!

Sometimes things work and sometimes they don’t, but that doesn’t matter. Because, with knitting, you can always just unravel it all and start again!

Introducing February’s theme - SLEEVELESS TOPS!

Yes, throughout February I will be knitting sleeveless tops in different colours, different designs and different sizes - for both adults and children - but all in beautiful, washable British wool!

I had fun with this one, designing the stylised flower and using all the colours!

I think these are great all year round pieces, but what do you call them - and do you wear them?

Finishing.

I’ve been super busy the last couple of days, working on the too many wips I had on the go, which was making me feel I little overwhelmed, so I really needed to finish them!

I’ll be able to share the first of those finished tomorrow😃

Today, I’m enjoying the calm feeling of finishing off another of those wips, which is just so satisfying and me back to me!
