Bear Basics Community project to provide families in need with essential items needed for babies 0-6 months

We are voluntary community group aiming to supply items to families that are struggling to provide basic items needed to welcome a new baby into their lives. We collect and distribute items to the Families via nominations from professionals or self referrals from eligible families.

** IMPORTANT UPDATE***
Following our quarterly meeting we have agreed we need some changes to the organisation. We are constantly restricted with what we can accept due to lack of storage and we have unfortunately had instances of people asking for items which have then been sold on or not really needed.

Going forward all requests for items must come via a health/social professional such as your midwife, health visitor, early help worker or social worker. They can contact us on [email protected]
We can still accept offers of donations via this page but no longer accept requests for support via this page. This way I can keep both requests and donations separate to allow better organisation my end.

To free up more space we will no longer be accepting clothing and will focus on the more expensive items families can’t afford. We will be running down some of the stock over the next few packages but will no longer be accepting them unless we have already agreed a collection.

Items that we will mainly be collecting for families are:
Prams/buggies
Car seats
Next to me cots
Moses baskets
Sheets and blankets for both
Baths
Chairs/ bouncers
Play/ floor mats
Sleep sacks
Sterilisers
Bottles
Breast pumps
Changing mats/bags
Cozy toes
Slings
Nappies size 1 or 2 only

Clothing donations can be given to a wonderful clothing organisation based in gravesend called WGYB Support CIC
There are a few other organisations bexley way that may take clothes too.

Please understand these changes are to help us streamline the organisation and make it more practical to run and help families bring babies home safely

We are in need of sterilisers if any one have one to donate. Ideally we prefer micro wave or cold water ones but we will accept electric ones in good condition and fully working.

We will be looking at some changes in the next few weeks to help streamline and build on this organisation. It can at times be a struggle with working full time, home life and running bear basics. There will be some change to how people refer to us and stock we hold and distribute to try and free more space in our storage unit. We want to continue the support families well into the future so it will mean a few changes.
We will be holding our quarterly meeting on 9th of April if anyone would like to attend to discuss helping out or finding out a bit more about us and what we do. Please message for details.
We are particularly looking for volunteers in the Gravesend/Northfleet area for collections and drop offs to our storage at Crayford, please get in touch if you need more information. But as always thank you for the on going support and donations that we receive.
