Not sure what to wear for Halloween? Here is some inspiration from the spooky vaults of our collection of historical garments, the John Bright Collection at Cosprop.

This 1920’s boy’s home-made fancy dress costume has been designed, like so many others of the time, in the vein of characters from the Italian theatrical tradition of Commedia del’ Arte, particularly recalling that of Pulcinella with his sinister face mask, pointed hat and ruffled collar.
The body of the garment is of white cotton, possibly a worn sheet, scattered with red cotton stars sewn on with white machine stitching; the boy’s head and the man in the moon have been embroidered in red and black thread.

Sunday night blues got you down?
Here is a pick me up for the week ahead with this memory from the summer. Ralph Fiennes in costumes from Cosprop, both new makes and from our stock, while portraying the legendary Henry Irving in ‘Grace Pervades’ on stage at Theatre Royal Haymarket in London.

We are looking for an alteration specialist to join our busy Womens Alteration department.
We are a well-established Costume House, working with a variety of productions for stage and screen since 1965, with a large hire department as well as costume making workshops.
You will be working closely with the Womens Costumiers, altering costumes to brief, as they have been fitted, before they go out to be used on a wide range of TV, film, and stage productions.
You will need to possess good sewing skills and an understanding of dress making, and historical women’s wear in general. You will need to be able to carry out a variety of alterations, within deadlines.
Some knowledge of historical costume is a plus.
You need to possess good communication skills and be able to work well within a team as well as using your own initiative.
You will need to be able to work well under pressure. Good time management is a must.
As part of the women’s alteration team, you will ensure that the garments are altered correctly and checked before leaving the building. You will sometimes be called upon to assist in fittings. This is a permanent position.
