These earrings were made by the indigenous Waurá people of the Xingu region, in the Amazon rainforest.

Despite embracing modern technologies in recent years, many parts of their traditional culture remain untouched. Their artisanal craft has always been important to them. Now, it is also of financial significance to their livelihoods.

Our partnership with helps us to bring these straight from the artisans to the world. Shining a spotlight on their craftsmanship and culture for everyone to see.

Elcione lives in Manaus, in the Amazon region. She makes beautiful jewellery inspired by the richness of Brazil's natural materials. This first necklace is made from corozo and açaí seeds (yes, that açaí 🥣 - which is a native superfruit from the Brazilian Amazon 🦧🐒🌳🐠🦜🦁🍌🌺🦋🌴)

The snake necklaces represent a recurring theme in indigenous cultures. The snake is a powerful symbol with a religious and spiritual context 🐍 Known to attack when they feel threatened, even if the threat is unintentional, a mere misstep can be lethal 🏹 The attack is therefore a reaction to our actions as humans, rather than an act of malice. In that light, the snake is a symbol to be feared, but also admired. It's commonly featured in tattoos and body art throughout the Amazon, as well in their crafts and jewellery.

That green necklace? That was made by Liane, who was born in Southern Brazil 🇧🇷 Like many in the region, she's a descendent of German immigrants who settled into the region decades ago. She likes to play with textures and her work features a range of materials, from rocks to paper. This necklace features both. The stone of choice was the beautiful agate 🤎
