I’m writing to you today with a heavy heart and a deep sense of gratitude, sadness but the right decision.
After 33 wonderful years, it’s time I hang up my fitting gauges and retire. Merlin Shoes will be closing on Friday 25th July 2025.
When I first opened our doors in 1992, I never could have imagined how much this shop—and all of you—would come to mean to me. From the very first day, when I sold one pair of red Start Rite Mary Jane shoes at 4pm, to our annual back to school time where the shop would be filled with laughter and the stories that the children would tell us about their holidays, these moments have been some of the happiest of my life.
Each one of you has contributed to this story in your own way. Your support, kindness, and loyalty helped build this little shop into a place where people felt welcome. Whether you came in every week or just stopped by once, you made a difference, and I will always be grateful.
Between now and 25th of July, we will remain open for you to visit, share memories, or simply say goodbye. Our clearance sale is also now on with children’s shoes from just £20, school shoes £35 as our way of expressing appreciation for your support over the years. We have loved being part of the Crystal Palace community.
