This month we celebrate our 10th anniversary with Professor.Ę who created a special collection exclusively for us.
Professor e has been one of our long-standing partners and over the years, we have developed a close relationship through our shared interest in vintage clothing and its history.
For this anniversary collection, professor e wanted to look back to that connection and take British vintage as the starting point.
The collection draws inspiration from British garments from the 1930s to the 1960s, including a 1930s-1940s British Leather Cyclist Jacket, 1960s British Khaki Drill Shorts, and a 1940s British Army Rider’s Coat. Rather than reproducing these original garments, we reworked their silhouettes, proportions, and details into something more contemporary, while bringing in materials and construction methods that are closely connected to Professor.E
The Cyclist Jacket and Rider’s Coat are both reinterpreted in 100% silk, creating a completely different character from the original garments. The rib knit used on the jacket was also developed specifically for the piece, referencing the two-section rib construction found in US Military garments. The shorts are made from deadstock vintage fabric, retaining the texture and character of the original material. For the Rider’s Coat, we also developed the waist buckle ourselves as part of the garment’s construction.
Throughout the collection, vintage buttons collected over time are incorporated, together with the hand-dyed coconut buttons. These details bring together different periods and materials, allowing the history and imperfections of vintage pieces to remain visible while being integrated into a new context.
This collection is professor e way of celebrating UJNG’s ten years, while also reflecting the kind of work we have continued to explore together over the years - taking references from the past, reworking them through our own perspective, and creating something that belongs to the present.
