The number of purses we’ve seen killed by a radiator... honestly.

Someone gets caught in the rain, panics, and puts the leather somewhere hot to dry it fast. That’s the mistake. Rain won’t ruin good leather. Fast heat will. Blot it with a dry cloth, leave it somewhere room temperature, and it’ll be fine by morning.

We make everything ourselves here in Britain, so when a piece comes back to the workshop we can usually tell exactly what happened to it. It’s nearly always one of these:

Heat-drying it. (The radiator is not your friend.)

Never feeding it. Leather is skin. A little conditioner twice a year, soft cloth, and it stays soft for decades.

Overstuffing it. A wallet forced around 20 cards holds that shape forever. Leather has memory, it keeps the shape you teach it.

Leaving it on the windowsill. Sunlight fades colour, and the brights fade first. Drawer or dust bag.

And the one nobody believes: the darkening and soft marks that show up after a year or two aren’t damage. That’s full-grain leather doing exactly what it’s meant to do. Cheap leather falls apart. Good leather just gets more yours.
