We are deeply saddened to learn that HH Arvind Singhji, Maharana of Udaipur passed away this morning. ππ
Arvind was an old and dear friend of many years. I met him in 1991 when he came to my London exhibition of early British prints of India. He exclaimed βthatβs my ancestor!β and rushed up to a large print of an early Maharana dated 1857.
After that I searched globally for all depictions of Udaipur for him and was thrilled to see so many displayed in the 19thC Print Gallery at the City Palace Museum, Udaipur.
I was delighted to write to Arvind introducing my friend Nicholas Tod, a descendant of the famous Col Tod, early 19thC Resident at Udaipur. They became great friends bringing the Tods and Udaipur together after 200 years!
It was always a joy to visit Udaipur for the Prize Giving events. I will always remember Arvindβs warm and welcoming hospitality in beautiful Udaipur, the absolute Jewel of India.
