As a young man, Leonardo was developing his own personal style. He wanted clothes in which he could move effortlessly between work and play, while still looking cool.

But those clothes didn’t seem to exist. Leonardo saw space for a brand that could combine the two.

A business man with the sensibility of a tailor and a passion for play. And we Italians know how to play.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN PERUGIA

Born in 1925 to a family of textile merchants, Leonardo’s interest in fashion really took hold at age 14. Twenty years later he would create the brand we now know as ellesse.

Perugia will always be the true home of ellesse. Leonardo went on to open our first factory there in 1967; a state of the art building in Via Mario Angeloni. Never too far from the home of his childhood, his creativity could run wild.

He worked hard. He played harder.
