It’s spring, dandelions are the bees first food. This bee is dead from w**d killer spread on what we see as w**ds, but what nature sees as food.

Please don’t spray for w**ds until you see the blackberries blooming. In this area, w**ds, flowers and fruit trees are bees only source of food until middle of June.

There are FAR more w**ds than flowers or fruit trees, so it's their only food source. NO bees, NO food crops for us and we all STARVE!!

A single teaspoon of honey does indeed represent a remarkable feat of nature and teamwork.

According to scientific estimates, it takes about 12 worker bees their entire six-week lifespan to produce just one teaspoon (approximately 5 milliliters) of honey.

During this time, bees must visit roughly 2,000 flowers per day, and collectively fly over 55,000 miles to gather enough nectar.

Bees convert nectar into honey through a process of digestion and evaporation, storing it in honeycomb cells and fanning it with their wings to reduce moisture content.

This transformation is vital not just for human consumption but primarily as a food source for the hive during times of scarcity.

Each drop of honey thus encapsulates an extraordinary collective effort involving precision, endurance, and cooperation within the colony.

This highlights not only the value of honey but also the essential ecological role bees play in pollinating crops and maintaining biodiversity.

🐝🌸 Bees Really Do Sleep — and Sometimes, They Nap Together in Flowers

Nature photographer Joe Neely captured a heartwarming and rare moment in the wild: two Globe Mallow bees (Diadasia species) curled up inside a Globe Mallow flower, peacefully resting. Covered in golden pollen, the bees are tucked side by side in the heart of the bloom, as if cradled by nature itself.

This touching image is more than just adorable — it's a glimpse into a little-known part of bee behavior: they nap. Bees, like humans, need rest. And some solitary male bees, with no hive to return to at night, often find shelter and sleep inside flowers, where they’re protected, warm, and surrounded by the scent of nectar.

🌿 Scientists have observed that these naps not only help bees recover from long days of foraging, but they may also play a role in how bees form social bonds — sometimes even sleeping in small groups, feet intertwined.

We’re trialling a new way of managing roadside verges by reducing mowing frequency and creating wildflower verges. This will help increase biodiversity along our roadsides and provide better habitats for local wildlife.

We’ve selected verges in seven areas of the district that are suitable for the trial based on factors like access, size, and potential for success:

🌱 Sydenham Drive, Leamington Spa
🌱 Campion Green, Leamington Spa
🌱 Beehive Hill, Kenilworth
🌱 Leamington Road, Kenilworth
🌱 Coventry Road, Kenilworth
🌱 Purser Drive, Warwick
🌱 Hampton Road, Warwick

Residents can get involved with biodiversity surveys on the trial verges to track how plant species may change over time and help to seed the verges. If you’d like to get involved please get in touch with Warwickshire Wildlife Trust at [email protected]. Survey dates are as follows (starting from approx. 10am):
