🌘 The Solar Eclipse is coming! 🌘✨
On 12th August, a partial solar eclipse will be visible across the UK, with the Moon covering a significant portion of the Sun in many areas. It’s an exciting event to watch — but protecting your eyes is essential! 👀☀️
Here are some important tips from Smith Opticians to help you enjoy the eclipse safely:
☀️ Never look directly at the Sun without proper protection. Even though the Sun appears dimmer during an eclipse, it can still cause serious and permanent damage to your eyes.
🌕 Try indirect viewing. A simple homemade pinhole projector can safely project an image of the eclipse, or you can watch the fascinating crescent-shaped shadows created by sunlight passing through gaps between tree leaves.
🕶️ Use specialist solar eclipse glasses. Regular sunglasses are not safe for viewing the Sun. If you're using eclipse glasses, make sure they are genuine solar viewers that meet the appropriate safety standard, such as ISO 12312-2.
✨ Enjoy this spectacular celestial event — but always put your eye health first!
