Roseground

Roseground Roseground Tatting & Lacemaking Supplies Tatting is a form of lacemaking which probably originated, in its present form, in the early 19th century.

Bobbin lacemaking originated in the 16th century in continental Europe and has developed throughout the world, in various forms and in various centres, since then. In England it developed as a cottage industry, again in various distinctive regional forms in several areas, notably the south-east midlands - Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire - and in Devon. This cottage industry had

its heyday in the 19th century before being largely overtaken by machine-made lace from the Nottingham area. The 1960s the craft saw a revival in interest in lacemaking among hobby lacemakers which spread throughout the world, The craft continues to flourish today, with 'lace days' and 'lace fairs' held regularly in most parts of the United Kingdom and other places thoughout the world. It is traditionally carried out using a shuttle to form the distinctive forms often seen on doily and handkerchief edgings - but nowadays developed to produce, in addition, far more adventurous and advanced pieces. More recently, needle tatting has developed and remains a popular alternative to the shuttle.

New thread alert! There's always something new at Roseground!

Earlier this year we were approached by Frank's Baumwolle in Germany asking if we would consider stocking their lacemaking thread. It was not a thread I knew too much about but after receiving some sample thread and working some lace with it (thanks Mrs Roseground the 1st), we decided that it would be a great addition to our fabulous range of threads.

A weekend of sport on the television has given me the opportunity to work on the colour charts and add the thread to the website. Even when watching TV I have to be working on something!!

Over 40 shades available in 3 sizes - 20/3, 30/3 and 40/2 - all 200 metre spools - click here to see the fabulous range - https://bit.ly/4gtEtOa

Enjoy!

Woohoo! Publication date of this eagerly awaited first book from Claire Bonito - I have seen a copy and can honestly say it is fabulous!

Our books should be dispatched from the distributor anytime soon so I will start sending out the pre-orders as soon as they arrive. You can order at www.roseground.com or if you want a signed copy, from Claire. Remember if you are purchasing from the UK, you can add to you order at no extra charge for postage regardless of the weight.

Congratulations Claire - super chuffed for you 😍

I can’t quite believe it. It today is publication day. I am now officially a published author.

A massive thank you to everyone at The Crowood Press who have held my hand every step of the way and helped me create something that I am so amazingly proud of.

So excited and nervous that my book will very soon be out in the world. I am very much hoping to have my first batch of books ready to send out to all those lovely people who have pre ordered from me in the next week or so. Once I am certain of a delivery date to me I will start sending out payment links. Hopefully in the next week.

If you have ordered your book online from Amazon there will be something of a delay due to the way their logistics work.

You can still pre-order from my website at www.bonitocrafts.co.uk or from Roseground too of course.

Huge congratulations to Unagh McCullough who has been awarded with an MBE for her services to lacemaking and needlecraft in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours.

What a fabulous achievement and a superb recognition for our craft.

As well as doing so much to promote lacemaking, Unagh is also the author of 101 Variations in Torchon Lace which was published by ARDS Bobbin Lace Enthusiasts - I know many of our followers are enjoying this fabulous publication.

Well done Unagh!

We’ve travelled south to enjoy a few days in Dorset - what a fabulous area to explore! - and today we are at Poole Lace Day enjoying a lovely time as a supplier. Lovely to be here.

We are heading south on Thursday ready for Poole Lace Day on Saturday. It looks like it is going to be a fabulous day with Jan Tregidgo giving the talk and Dee Carver with her beautiful bobbins and LaceyMay's (haberdashery) joining us as suppliers.

We are looking forward to meeting lots of the Poole (and surrounding area) lacemakers 😃

We have seized the opportunity to take a couple of days beforehand to explore the area so will be heading off early on Thursday. Anyone attending who has anything on their wish list, please do drop me a line ([email protected]) to be sure that I include. We bring quite a spread but would hate to not include that one thread or book (or anything else!) that you had hoped to purchase.

Visit https://www.poolebobbinlace.com/lace-day.html for more information about the lace day.

We are in “Sunny Hunny” Hunstanton over in North Norfolk today - and yes, despite what the weather forecast said, the sun is shining! We are attending Lavender Lacemaker Lace Day and what a fabulous room full of lacemakers we have❤️.

A fascinating talk given by Carole Morris of Spangles - if you hear this ever you will certainly start looking at antique spangles very differently!

And we remember Lynn Hallifax who was the founder of the event and sadly passed away last year. Well done to Alison and the team who have continued to run it -always a lovely day 💜
