I absolutely love to get photos like this! First of all huge congratulations to Disabled Adventurer Nick for everything he does to make the outdoors more accessible for us but more than that for winning his category.

Adaptive Fashion is more than clothing, its about community, and seeing members of my community winning prestigious award, while being comfortable in their own skin to collect them in person makes my heart sing.

And hats off to the event organiser Discover Northamptonshire, seeing a ramp on your stage shows what can be done if you really want to.

Personally I've been to too many award ceremonies where the stage was higher than my head height with no ramp in sight, so I knew on entering the building that I hadn't won It made for a long old night!

Its not just about being in the room, it's about feeling included.

Thats me off to the Northants Tourism Business Awards with Discover Northamptonshire where I'm a nominee for the Unsung Hero Award, and wearing my adaptive outfit by the incredible Kat at Seated Sewing UK

However, its not about an award, it is reminding councils, businesses and individuals the importance of accessibility and showing potential visitors what is available!

Why oh why will Dr's and nurses NOT listen to their patients!

My veins are shot, I have just finished my 2nd antibiotic course of the year, which is just below chemo in toxicity and it has nearly killed me and my body.

My veins are so bad I have to have a mid-line fitted under ultrasound and geneal anesthetic for bloods and IV access.

Despite explaining this to healthcare practitioner I encounter, why do they feel they know better?

9 times they tried, 9 plasters I was covered in, resulting in 9 painful bruises and 1 popped vein!

I understand that everyone is different and some people make up excuses for the fun of it (why anyone wants to pretend to be ill is beyond me).

BUT when you have someone with a complex medical history and 6 weeks in hospital out of the last 10, please listen to them as you would a senior member of staff.

We may not have a qualification but we have a in our own bodies and our conditions, we aren't telling you this to fill the silence or pass the time, we share this vital information with you to save time, resources and pain.

This is why Lumiere Durham should NOT be cancelled , it touches people in ways money can't buy.

My son is 19, with complex autism, he is supported by the wonderful and this is the picture he came home with from school on Friday!

For someone who hates leaving the house after a school day, going on walks, being in crowds, queueing, loud music, bright lights and with a number of other sensory issues, Lumiere is actually the highlight of his year. To the point where he actually counts down the days and we have to visit every night of the event, and visit all of the installations, so he can be sure to experience it all.

He has drawn a memorial plaque with all his favourite installations over the years, and as you can see he has a photographic memory for the things he loves.

In the words of Tom, "it's only on every 2 years, so tell them all to save up harder, so they have enough money to put it on again". Out of the mouths of babes!

At a time when kids like mine are have had so much funding and support removed from them, this feels like another hammer blow.

Well, I've only gone and done it... Seated has officially outgrown my home studio!! Mr Seated Sewing signed for our new units (while I was in hospital!!) 🔑

It is the scariest jump I have taken to date and the most expensive, BUT if I am to grow bigger than an one woman band, then needs must. 🙏

I need space for admin staff, freelance seamstresses, and a range of other skilled people I just haven't had the space to invite to the party! 🪡🪛👚👩‍🦼

And if these past 2 weeks have proved anything, it is that I can't afford not to have cover when I'm in hospital any more, I have lost 3 hugely prestigious orders, not in monitory terms but from marketing and who would have worn them and to which event! It has been heartbreaking having to call time and say it's not possible to fulfil the order!

Doing fashion week in Feb confirmed the direction we need to go in and the fact that I have an audience who want to wear what I offer.

We can now also offer things like sewing machine service & repair, work experience and much much more... watch this space, World Domination, here we come! 😁😆

This will be the customer facing side of Seated Sewing, the unit is painted in white with a grey floor, and has bright lights shining down from the high ceiling, it has an open doorway to an identical unit, which will be the beating heart of Seated Towers.

Nick the Disabled Adventurer is looking particularly dapper at a recent awards evening.

I created this adaptive looks for him, using our smart look, with a couple of tweaks.

This is what a love about collaborating with clients, we can tweak every outfit until it's the most comfortable and functional it can be.

With this outfit I trialed a different back to the waistcoat, which was much more comfortable to wear and gave a greater range of movement. I also added a little more length to the trousers, so they sit better on top of his shoes.

The original adaptive features were also included, the trousers where higher at the back and lower at the front, there were no pockets and an elasticated waist.

The outfit is made from Viscose Blend Stretch Suiting - Celestial Shower from Fabworks Mill Shop, it has a lovely drape to it and it cool and breathable for sitting in a wheelchair in, it also has a slight stretch adding to the comfortable levels.

Nick was awarded a Special Recognition Award!

This is absolutely a company you need to follow. Max was the youngest person ever to be turned down by BBC Dragons' Den. Sadly its not surprising, very few disabled owned companies have been provided funding by the Dragon's, which goes to show how closed minded and unwilling they are to understand us as a community. The spending power of the disabled community is £200 million per month in the UK alone, the not only bring loyal buyers, it also attracts their carers and family members. So get your heads out of the sand Dragon's and invest in grasaroot companies who have had to create their own brands because the mainstream just doesn't cater to us!
