It was good to see the few hardy souls who braved the bitter cold to come along to the Community Allotment this morning. We also enjoyed a chat with some of the regular allotment holders. Although the wind did it's best to blow away our banner, folk still managed to enjoy a cuppa and piece of cake as well as exchange some tips and suggestions for this year's growing season. Visitors were also delighted to take away some free veg.

Dave and the team are looking forward to planting up the new raised beds and would be delighted to welcome new members - no experience of regular time commitment required.

If you fancy being involved in some way do contact Dave - just drop him a line at [email protected] or call 07485 701970.

It's 'Social Sunday' at the Community Allotment - tomorrow morning from 11am.

Pop along to the South Cambridgeshire District Council funded community allotment, Rampton High Street, to see what’s going on, what's been done, what's planned for this year.

Suggestions for food to grow this year are very welcome.

We will be giving away sunflower and wildflower seeds for you to grow in your own garden.

Come and have a chat as well as a cuppa and piece of cake.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Another load of rubbish collected from our highways and byways by a fantastic team of volunteers - 10 adults and 3 children. In amongst the usual red bull cans and Stella Artois bottles were some gas canisters, a tyre and the tar spreader left behind by the pothole menders! Fortunately, the sun was shining once again and the hoops for the rubbish bags were a real boon given the strong gusts of wind. Interestingly, the main high street area was fairly clean as was church end but the Willingham end of the high street was absolutely littered with red bull cans and bottles - too heavy to carry!

As usual it was good to relax afterwards with friends and neighbours, with a well deserved cup of tea and cake outside Rampton Village Hall.

It's Great British Spring Clean Time!
Join the more than 400,000 volunteers by taking part in Rampton's Spring Litter Pick, Saturday 28 March from 2pm - meet at the Green.

Calling all ! Let's celebrate the end of winter by tidying up our village in anticipation of the longer days to come. Help us collect all those discarded bottles, cans and general rubbish that are disfiguring our village and endangering wildlife so that we can all enjoy a healthier environment.

Meet up at the Green at 2pm to collect litter grabbers, hi-vis jackets, gloves and rubbish bags. We’ll finish up at Rampton Village Hall afterwards for a chat and refreshments.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible, including children who always make very enthusiastic and energetic litter pickers!

Please note that children need to be under the close supervision of a responsible adult.

Congratulations and a big thank you to Slate Hall Veterinary Services, Cow Lane, Rampton https://www.slatehall.co.uk for kicking off the village Spring Litter Pick this Monday by collecting 4 bags of rubbish from the verges and hedgerows starting from their offices, "down the Fen almost down as far as New Farm". Unsurprisingly, the litter consisted mainly of Red Bull cans and fast food packaging, most of which, as their Senior Practice Administrator Angela Cowley said, could have been recycled.

Join us this coming Saturday, 28 March from 2pm at the Green to clean up the rest of the village. (No doubt Cow Lane will still need a tidy up despite the best efforts of Angela and her colleagues.) Hey ho, we'll still do our bit because we love where we live!

The vets at Slate Hall Veterinary Services combine specialist expertise, extensive experience and innovative technologies to provide you with comprehensive health and welfare for your poultry.

We had another successful Repair Cafe on Saturday 14 March. Our talented team of repairers tackled a wide variety of items new and old, including 3 sewing machines, a 35 year old Hi Fi, a Digital Tyre Inflater, a dehumidifier, a nebuliser and 2 vacuum cleaners as well as jewellery and a range of clothing and bags.

Out of the 36 items brought in for repair, 28 were fixed, 7 were deemed repairable and only 1 ended up in the e-waste bin.

There was a really vibrant joyful buzz about Rampton Village Hall as repairers beavered away while 'repairees' and some folk who just came to sample the refreshments chatted. Most 'repairees' went away happy, even those whose items couldn’t be repaired there and then for whatever reason. As one 'repairee' noted, while her vacuum cleaner couldn't be fixed on the day, she was delighted that the repairer had identified the problem and the low price of the required spare part which she intends to buy and take to the nearest Repair Cafe and have fitted. https://cambridgecarbonfootprint.org/repair-cafes

As always we’re in awe of repairers' expertise and commitment to the repair community and grateful to them for giving up their time to support our event. We'd also like to thank all the wonderful local volunteers who helped us on the day. We couldn't run these events without them. And a big shout out to the amazing Pat Turner for making us a beautiful banner, displayed for all to see at the back of the stage.
This event was run in partnership with Cambridge Carbon Footprint.

Forgot to book?

No worries, come along as we always reserve some slots for repairs that turn up on the day. You may have to wait until a repairer becomes free. Some repairs are likely to be done quickly and there's always the possibility that repairs that have been booked don’t show up freeing up our repairers to do others.

While you’re waiting you can enjoy some refreshments in our café. There will be gluten free and vegan cakes among the delicious options to choose from - see the photo of choices available from our last event as an example of what will be on offer.

Don't forget to bring your redundant cables and small electrical that can't be repaired and put them in the e-waste bin.

This event is run in partnership with Cambridge Carbon Footprint and insured by Wessex Insurance.

Following advice from Greenwillows Associates Ltd, that as it's not yet the newt breeding season we wouldn't disturb any present in the pond, an even smaller group (just 3, including Cllr Dence) had another go at skimming the pond. After another hour's work it's looking much better thanks to their efforts and the parachute net. The latter can rest up now until the autumn. 😊

We had another successful session 'tidying' the village pond yesterday under the careful supervision of Sharon Dence, Field Ecologist with Greenwillows Associates Ltd.

Our thanks to Sharon and the 3 other villagers - Jennie Coles, Steve Cox and Sam Allen - who helped us pull weeds, cut back overhanging vegetation, collect up leaves and skim off the green scum from the pond's surface before winter sets in. Sharon and John even waded into the pond to check on silt levels, no mean feat given the recent heavy rain had significantly increased its depth!

After an hour and a half's hard work we were glad to finish and enjoy a cuppa with a piece of cake. The pond looks much better as a result - so much so that 2 moorhens decided to visit in the afternoon!

Our thanks to Rob Taylor for 'accommodating' the clippings/cuttings and to Rampton Village Hall for the use of the facilities.
