Here are 4 of my favourite garden birds, who all visit our garden regularly throughout the year now!

Blue tit: I love watching their antics around the bird feeders. They are really cheeky and we often have a pair who seem to be playing a game of tag around the garden, which is really funny to watch!

Blackbird: I really love the blackbird’s song, and especially how recognisable each bird is. We’ve had a pair nesting in the garden this year, and it’s been fascinating to watch them collect twigs and greenery.

Robin: my all time favourite garden bird. There are 2 who come frequently to the garden, and throughout the winter, one used to be in the tree waiting for me to put the seed out for him!

Wren: I love hearing a wren, especially how loud they are considering the size of them!

Do you have a favourite garden bird and a reason why? Do share below!

As well as animals and birds, I also really love drawing flowers!

This is my ‘globeflower’, and I’d love some suggestions for a wildflower to draw next!

Let me tell you a bit more about the globeflower first though…

One of the most iconic sights in the Yorkshire Dales are the Three Peaks: Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. It’s a fantastic ‘challenge walk’ to try and complete them all in one day! I’ve done this twice in my life, as well as enjoying them as single peaks as well. The views are incredible, and there is so much wildlife to be found.

Since 2021, the conservation project ‘Wild Ingleborough’ has worked to create a wilder future for this part of the Yorkshire Dales, restoring the land to enable more species to thrive - not only fauna but flora too.

The wildflowers around Ingleborough are spectacular, with the first blooms arriving around mid April. By the summer, amongst the purple saxifrage and tiny violets, you can spot the bright yellow globeflowers.

This is a stunning flower, a bit like a huge buttercup. It would once have been a common sight across the Dales, but is now increasingly rare. One of the best ways of helping the globeflower is to restore traditional hay meadows.

I hope you like my globeflower illustration! I’d love to draw another wildflower soon - which one should I go for?!

One of our smallest birds, yet mighty in his full throated song!

I adore wrens, and they really are one of my favourite garden birds. In fact, one of my early childhood memories is finding an old wren’s nest in our garden, and realising that it had used some of my hair that my mum had thrown out of the window from my hairbrush! I must have only been 7/8 at the time, but I remember marvelling at how completely intricate and perfect this nest was.

I really loved creating my wren drawing too, and actually, my wren giclee print has now become my most popular one!

Are there any other products you would like to see a wren on?

My favourite animal - the beautiful hare ❤️

Often seen bounding across fields in a flash of fur and energy, they really do bring a touch of magic to the countryside. I love spotting them in the fields around where we live, and it’s always exciting to see one near the hedgerows on the evenings when I’m driving back at dusk.

I find it fascinating that hares also have so much mystery surrounding them. One of my favourite examples of this is that a hare’s foot was believed to be a good luck charm, so actors often carried one with them! Did you know that Samuel Pepys even once purchased a hare’s foot as a medicine for a stomach complaint? I’m glad that these particular superstitions are perhaps no longer believed, but I do think it’s always very special to see a hare!

It’s so sad to think that the brown hare has declined by around 60% in the last 60 years

It’s one of my hopes that my art will make you fall more in love with British wildlife and gently drive you to protect it more closely. Because now, more than ever, we need to live and work in a way that supports and replenishes nature’s bounty.

Have you seen a hare recently?

What you love doing doesn’t have to matter to or make sense to anyone else ❤️

I love drawing, especially wildlife…and especially mice and hares!

What do you love doing?
