Use Pantone cards as your canvas & create some colour popping collages!

Join us to transform Pantone postcards into wonderful eye-catching collages in this workshop. We've got collage papers, books, magazines and a stash of Pantone postcards for you to create some artworks with a difference. Gentle guidance will be on hand throughout, along with tea, coffee and biscuits.

Original artworks in this post are by previous workshop participants!

This is one of my favourite workshops…the focus is on the ‘cut-out’ technique of Henri Matisse which he developed during the last years of his artistic life. You'll discover how Matisse ‘carved into colour’ - using simple shapes and vivid tones to transform paint and paper into a vibrant world of plants, animals, figures, and shapes.

After an introduction to Matisse’s work we’ll be creating a series of Matisse-inspired cards, a bookmark and an A4 collage artwork over the course of the morning. Book yourself in for a whole load of colour and joy!

Oooh, look at the wonderful textures on this ceramic plaque, fresh out of the kiln!

Come and get busy with gel plates, underglaze, nature-inspired stencils, mark-making tools and pre-made, bisque-fired ceramic pieces that are ready for you to decorate in however you fancy!

You’ll come away with a new skill as well as up to five printed gifts cards, postcards and ceramic homeware pieces (the cost of firing is also included in the price). Sara from and Shelley from Ways of Seeing can’t wait to see what you create!

I was invited back to deliver another creative morning for ‘The Monday Gang’ this week. We brought colour and creativity to a heap of pebbles this morning – check out the brilliant mixture of abstract and figurative designs produced!

The Monday Gang is a vibrant & easy-going group for people in the early stages of dementia. They meet on a Monday in the gorgeous walled garden of Hands Of Hope Charity UK in Hawkhurst. Big thanks to Sarah & Fiona at WRAP (Weald Rural Activities Partnership) & The Dementia Experience for inviting me to deliver this creative workshop and thank you to everyone for another warm welcome!

Do you have a group you’d like to book a bespoke workshop for? I can provide creative sessions for both adults and children. All materials for the workshop are provided (along with a stack of guidance and encouragement from me!). Send me an email: [email protected] with more details. Shelley ✂️

The focus for July's Ways of Doing challenge is…THE SEA! An inspiration to so many artists throughout the centuries and there’s a lot of scope for different ways to respond to this theme. Photography, embroidery, painting, a piece of music, sketching, collage, printing, poetry, prose…go with whatever way you fancy! I think I might try printing with seaweed!

This challenge is completely free to take part in; it's just something joyful and creative to get involved with. Once you’ve created your response, share it on Instagram with the hashtag and tag .art or email it to me at [email protected] with all the details. I can’t wait to see what you are inspired to create!

We had such a lovely, creative day today! Participants did brilliantly as they learned how to produce image transfers using a gel plate. Have a look through the photos here featuring a selection of their brilliant prints.

Here’s some smile-inducing feedback from today’s session when participants were asked what they most enjoyed:

‘All of it, a place to experiment’
‘Making my works of art in a friendly atmosphere’
‘Experimenting and playing’
‘Learning a new skill, having time to play’
‘Trying a new way of using textures and colours’
‘Playing and fun’

Thanks to everyone who took part – you are all wonderfully creative!

JUST 1 PLACE LEFT FOR THIS WORKSHOP!

Come and create a variety of gel plate prints using Rye Castle Museum's wonderful pottery collection as your inspiration. Museum staff will be treating us to a behind-the-scenes tour where we can get close to the collection and really get inspired!

You’ll aim to create up to four stencils to use on the gel plate during the printing part of this workshop. It’ll be up to you to decide on whether to stick to traditional colours and outlines or go a bit wild in your interpretation - there will be no rules!
