COLOUR ANALYSIS FOR TEENS
Growing up in the ’90s, we were right at the start of the fast fashion boom. We shopped… and shopped… and shopped some more! I remember flicking through the Freemans catalogue, convinced I was the height of fashion. Or parading around Cameron Toll New Look, thinking it was the best kept secret, only to find my friends and I in the same blue polyester blouse with large print format 😅
Things have definitely changed since then. After my shopaholic twenties and thirties, I’ve become much more mindful about what I buy. These days, around 80% of my wardrobe is second-hand. I love circular fashion, making do, mending, and giving clothes a longer life. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the excitement of something new! But now I think about how many ways I can wear it, whether one of my girls might enjoy it next, or if I can pass it on to a friend when I’m finished with it.
One thing I absolutely love about this next generation is how naturally they embrace buying pre-loved, charity shopping, swapping clothes, and investing in quality over quantity.
One of the best ways to build confidence in your wardrobe is by understanding your seasonal colour palette. Knowing which colours make you look fresh, healthy and full of energy, and which ones leave you looking tired or washed out, makes getting dressed so much easier. It also helps you build a wardrobe around the right neutrals and colours that all work together… saving money, reducing waste, and avoiding those fashion purchases that never quite feel right.
And of course, colour analysis isn’t about rules. I’m also a big believer that with the right styling, confidence, and a few clever tricks, you really can wear almost anything. Sometimes it’s about adjusting the colour near your face, and sometimes it’s simply about owning the look.
Here’s lovely Annabelle looking gorgeous in her Spring palette. Think bright, warm and clear tones rather than soft, cool or powdery shades. Once you know your colours and understand how they work for you, you have the tools for life.
The world really is your oyster. 🦪
