My graduate collection nearly 20 years ago 🫣 Wow time has flown and so much has changed!

When I look at my work from back then I see how basic my knowledge and technique was, but also how much more experimental and free.

I had a lot more time to play around with ideas, but I had not yet refined my skills in knitwear. I am largely self taught so have made many more mistakes than necessary 😅 but also, learning through failure can make you more creative and open up ideas in a new way that old paths don’t allow for.

Looking at my work now I’m happy that I’ve become much more skilled and have an excellent knowledge base, but I do miss just messing around with ideas for a few weeks with no particular aim!

Head to my website and have a look at my blog to see a more in-depth article I’ve written about my degree, my graduate collection and where I’m at now with my work. Link in bio.

Truly the softest gloves I’ve ever made, I’d love to put them in your hands so you can understand how delicious they are to wear!

Handmade from up-cycled cashmere sweaters, so they’re good for the environment too.

Each pair is completely unique; one-of-a-kind never to be repeated, and of course they’re carefully hand crafted to ensure a great tailored fit. www.lillirosewicks.com

Shoutout to for the book inspiration! Promoting my work has always been my least favourite aspect of running my own business. I’ve been hesitant to promote my work because in the back of my mind is the thought that if my work is good enough, it will sell itself, turns out that’s not true! Wish me luck on my journey and buy my stuff, it’s really good 😊👍🏻

New year new studio.same extensive collection of yarn, new organisation skills, same procrastination paralysis, new determination to break habits and build on what I’ve already built. We’ll see how it goes 😂

Some summery tops, trying to broaden my range to include less winter-y things 😅 As a knitwear designer I make the vast majority of my income in 2 months of the year (November and December), which can make things more precarious for the rest of the year! Trying to budget and having to spend out the most when I have the least can be a challenge. So this year I’ve been working on diversifying with some floaty summer tops and more homewares. Hopefully the time invested pays off but either way it’s always good to try new things!

Planters
I’ve been working on a few collections of planters to sell at markets this summer and it has been such a joy to be able to just experiment and let my ideas go in whichever direction I feel like. I’m so excited with how they’re looking so far. These are just one of the designs.. there are many many more in the works!
From the outside looking in you might assume I spend a lot of time designing and being creative, but reality is much more mundane 😅 The majority of my time is taken up with making my product, freelance work, admin and keeping on top of tidying up after myself. I spent 2 months last year making gloves, it’s not glamorous 😂 So whilst I’ve given myself free reign to test out lots of new ideas I’m mindful of how lucky I am to do work that I find (mostly) satisfying and I’m truly truly grateful for that.

For some reason we didn’t shoot this scarf back in November.. I think it might’ve got to the end of the day and we were all tired and ready for it to be over 😂 So these are photos taken in 2019 by !! I’m just so so good at procrastinating that it might be another 6 years until we get some more updated pictures of the new colours 😌 Until then, tell me, are you brave enough to wear the multi colour one (tutti fruitti)???

Same scarf, different colour; I’ve added a ‘tobacco’ brown to the available colours that my lambswool stripe scarf comes in. I used to be dismissive of more neutral tones because I found them boring 😅 But now I recognise the nuance of more gentle colours and the way they have a closer connection to nature. I’m much more into green these days too, so expect to see lots of khaki in future collections! Have you found that as you age your appreciation of colour broadens too?

An update to the tuck jumper I’ve been making for years- now roomier and with a nicer drape. Also in a few new colours- including the denim blue worn by in the first slide.

Sleeve detail on my tuck jumper. I love this denim blue, I don’t make anything else in this colour but I think it’s gonna work its way into a few more pieces this coming winter.
