Sheffield United Community Foundation Workshop.💡🎨

JUST DOWN THE ROAD. 🚗

We kit out teams across the country, but there’s something special about getting involved on our doorstep. Last week, we headed to a sunny Bramall Lane to meet Sheffield United Community Foundation’s e-sports students. 💻🎮

On the agenda? A look inside Kitlocker, a chat about careers and a chance to design a shirt of their own. 👕

YOU DON’T NEED IT ALL FIGURED OUT. 🤷‍♂️

Behind every kit is a whole team of people, with different skills, interests and backgrounds. Jonny and Brad introduced the students to some of those roles, from design and marketing to sales, technology and warehouse operations.

The message? There are plenty of careers to explore, and you don’t need every step planned before you start.

DIFFERENT ROUTES. 🛣️
ROOM TO GROW. 📈

Jonny and Brad shared their own career journeys to show that there’s no single way to find what suits you. Brad went from hairdressing into warehouse work and later HR. Jonny started with a university placement, trying marketing before finding his feet in roles centred around people.

For the students, the message was simple: whatever your background, there’s room to try things, change direction and discover what you enjoy.

Next up, a chance to explore their own creative skills. ✍️

THEIR TURN. 🫵
THEIR SHIRT. 👕

After hearing about the people and processes behind the kit, the students took on a design challenge of their own. The brief was simple: create a shirt you’d actually want to wear.

Some took inspiration from music and film. Others picked up a pen and went with the flow, trying colours, patterns and details that felt right to them. ✍️

BLADES MEETS BUTTONS.

One student carefully reworked the Sheffield United Blades emblem to incorporate a games controller. A clever way to bring the club’s identity and their e-sports studies together in one detail. 🎮

That’s the exciting part of opening up the design process. Everyone brings their own interests and references, taking a familiar shirt somewhere new.

SHEFFIELD, YOU’VE GOT IDEAS.💡

It’s never just names and numbers on a shirt. It’s the people wearing it, the things they love and

THE ART OF BEING UNITED.

A club you love. Music that stays with you. A city proud of its own.

Cambridge United’s Syd Barrett-inspired fourth shirt brings them together, while supporting mental health work.

A CAMBRIDGE ORIGINAL.

A shirt with a story to tell.

A CITY’S PRIDE.
A CREATIVE MIND.

Syd Barrett helped shape the sound of Pink Floyd. His hometown was Cambridge.

This fourth shirt brings those worlds together, celebrating his creativity through the club that shares his city.

As Cambridge United’s kit partner, we were proud to help turn that connection into something people could wear.

TURN UP
THE INSPIRATION.

A selection of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd album covers. An open brief. Plenty of room to play. For our designer, Adam Wigfield, the prism and rainbow from The Dark Side of the Moon provided the starting point.

The challenge was to take something instantly recognisable and see where he could take it.

DISTORT. PIXELATE. REPEAT.

Adam pulled the shapes around, pixelated the detail and built a repeating pattern.

Grey, black and purple. Flashes of rainbow colour. The early designs gave him and the club something to explore and refine.

With each change, the artwork moved further from the record cover and closer to the shirt.

FOR THOSE WHO KNOW.

That orange and blue? A nod to the painted floorboards on Syd’s solo album, The Madcap Laughs and the football clubs colour palette. 🎨

The diamond pattern? A reference to Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pink Floyd’s tribute to their former bandmate.

Little moments of recognition. Details that give you another reason to love the shirt. 🫶

UNITED FOR A REASON.

A song can make you feel understood. A club can give you somewhere to belong.

Created in collaboration with the Barrett Estate, this release brings football and music together to mark World Mental Health Day.

A proportion of replica shirt sales and proceeds from the match-worn shirt auction will support mental health work.

WELL, SOME SHIRTS REALLY
DO STRIKE A CHORD, DON’T THEY?

£20,000 in shirt sales on day one.🤩
