AI is speeding up construction planning... but who’s checking the safety? We’re seeing more teams using AI to shape design and sequencing. But faster decisions can mean faster risks:

Unsafe sequencing
Missed manual handling issues
Assumptions that don’t reflect real site conditions

AI should support decisions not replace competent oversight. That’s where the Principal Designer still plays a critical role. A simple sense-check we’re encouraging:

➡️ Has it been reviewed by someone competent?

For the past 18 months, Gateway 2 has been defined by delays and frustration — but recent data suggests things are starting to improve.

✅ Applications are being processed at a steadier rate
✅ Backlogs and legacy cases are reducing
✅ Greater clarity on what “good” looks like

This reflects a wider shift not just within the Building Safety Regulator, but across the industry. Teams are adapting, collaboration is improving, and processes are maturing. The challenges haven’t gone away, but the direction is encouraging.

Anupa joins us as a Chartered Architect with experience across residential, industrial, healthcare and education projects.

She brings strong design coordination experience, practical site knowledge and a clear understanding of how information needs to be managed between clients, consultants, contractors and Building Control.

Anupa has also completed RIBA Principal Designer training under the Building Regulations and Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM), which makes her a strong addition to our growing Principal Designer team.
