This one started with a client who wanted to explore something a little different.

David, from Ipswich, found us while building his eyewear collection. He already wears photochromic lenses in his daily pair, but for his AHLEM Rue de Turenne he wanted to introduce colour, without turning the glasses into something that felt overly loud.

So we started with him, not the lens.
A remote Lens Art® consultation. His lifestyle. Where he imagined wearing them. His existing eyewear. A remote colour analysis. And, of course, the frame itself.

The result was a bespoke blue-to-brick bi-gradient tint.

Blue above for a cooler visual character and to soften harsh artificial light. Brick below to introduce warmth and connect beautifully with both David's colouring and the understated acetate of the AHLEM.

But then came the wildcard.
Dinamica Jade.
It wasn't necessarily where David thought he would end up. But once he saw the designs, he kept coming back to the green.

And I can see why.

Under UV, that quiet bi-gradient transforms into this rich jade green, completely changing the personality of the glasses while still working beautifully with the frame.

We finished everything with Crystal Elite. Anti-reflection, but without adding another obvious colour hue.

The lens design already had enough to say.

And then there's possibly my favourite part...the fade-back.

As the Jade begins to relax and the bespoke tint starts revealing itself again, you get these beautiful moments of teal moving into amber.

Colours we never actually designed as individual tints, they exist because of the interaction between the technologies.

That's why I love combining custom tinting with photochromics.

You're not designing one lens colour.
You're designing how the eyewear behaves in light.

Prescription lenses don’t have to be clear, grey or brown.

One of the things we hear surprisingly often is:

“I didn’t know you could do that with lenses.”

Custom tinting can go far beyond choosing a standard sunglass colour.

We can explore subtle everyday tints, bespoke gradients, multiple colours, prescription sunglasses, polarisation, flash mirrors and even combine a permanent tint with photochromic technology, allowing the same pair of glasses to develop a completely different character outdoors.

And if you already own a frame you love, we can often design the lenses specifically for that frame through our Lens Art® reglazing service.

We’ve put together a complete guide explaining what’s possible, including real Lens Art commissions we’ve created for clients in the UK and internationally.

A new client came to us because of someone else’s glasses.

She had seen a pair we'd created for one of our clients and couldn't believe how much the eyewear suited her. Not simply as glasses, but as an accessory.

Something completely individual.

For many of us, theo and the other independent brands we work with have become almost normal. But seeing that reaction from someone discovering this world for the first time never gets old.

She chose the THEO Strip from the Neon Collection, an unapologetic combination of fluorescent orange and pink.

And then she discovered what we could do with the lenses.

That changed everything.

We created one of our in-house Lens Art® colour recipes: OG Tangerine Dreams. An amber/orange graduated tint designed to work with the frame rather than compete against it.

When she looked through them, her reaction said more than any technical description could:

“It feels like I’m on summer holiday.”

Everything becomes warmer. Brighter. More contrasted. But without feeling overpowering. A lens designed to be genuinely enjoyable to look through as well as beautiful to look at.

Then we gave Tangerine Dreams a second personality.

Under UV, Dinamica photochromic technology begins to transform the colour. The amber deepens through orange and red into a rich rosy pink. Almost as though THEO had designed this colourway knowing what the lenses would eventually become.

We finished the combination with a Glamour coating, complementing the warmth of the lens while supporting its everyday and driving use.

The result isn't simply a colourful frame with colourful lenses.
It's a visual experience that changes with the environment.

Theodore came to Lens Art from Ohio, USA. And this is the second pair he's trusted us to reinterpret.

This time, he already had an idea.

His AKONI Juno II in Palladium is a fascinating piece of eyewear: a rimless lens construction surrounded by titanium and acetate side shields, combining technical engineering with Akoni's unmistakable design language.

The original grey lenses worked beautifully with the monochrome frame.

But Theodore wanted more.

Something he could wear comfortably indoors, while allowing the glasses to become significantly more expressive outside.

We began with a custom Blue Rio graduated tint — cool and comfortable to look through, with enough colour to give the Juno II a different character indoors.

Then we introduced Marma Dinamica Amethyst.

As the light changes, the lens develops into a saturated violet that completely changes the relationship between the lenses and the Palladium frame.

And as it fades back, it moves through softer violet and lavender tones before the Blue Rio gradually re-emerges.

We finished the lenses with Crystal Elite, chosen to keep reflections restrained so the colour and Akoni's brushed titanium craftsmanship remain the focus.

One frame.

One lens design.

Multiple visual states.

And most importantly, a second commission from someone who trusted us with the first.

THE BLUE HOUR

This AHLEM EYEWEAR Colisée White Gold travelled from Dallas, Texas, for its first Lens Art® commission.

Its owner is a lifelong glasses wearer and collector of exceptional eyewear, including AHLEM, Cartier and Jacques Marie Mage. Having discovered our work through our films, this was the first pair he entrusted to The Optical Gallery.

The existing lenses were beautifully made, but visually they had become the loudest element of the glasses. Our objective was not to create a more dramatic lens. It was to create a more considered relationship between the person, the lenses and the white-gold architecture of the frame.

Following a remote Lens Art consultation and colour analysis, we created three original interpretations. The selected design 'The Blue Hour' combines a bespoke petrol gradient, Blue Ocean Dinamica and a Glamour finish.

Visible yet restrained indoors. Richer and more expressive in stronger light. Designed to soften brightness while allowing the eyes and the AHLEM Colisée to remain the focus.

Because exceptional lenses should not compete with exceptional eyewear.
They should complete it.

📚 Is your child ready for the new school year?

Did you know that children often don't realise they have a vision problem? If they've always seen the whiteboard a little blurry, they simply assume that's normal.

Before the new school year begins, it's worth checking for these common signs:

👀 Squinting or tilting their head to see clearly
📖 Holding books or tablets very close
📺 Sitting too close to the TV
😣 Frequent headaches or tired eyes after school
📚 Losing their place while reading or avoiding close-up tasks
🎒 Struggling to concentrate in class without an obvious reason

A simple eye test can make a real difference to your child's confidence and learning.

At The Optical Gallery, we're here to help families across South West London and Surrey with children's eye tests at our practices in Cheam, Chessington and Twickenham.

Some designs arrive years before the world understands them.

This J.F. REY "New Black" from the Going Beyond Standards collection was one of them.

Long before material innovation became fashionable, it combined titanium, acetate and advanced construction in ways that challenged conventional eyewear design.

Its philosophy wasn't to follow trends.
It was to question them.

That made it the perfect canvas for Lens Art®.

Rather than choosing a lens, we began with the frame's philosophy.

Inspired by the changing light of late winter afternoons, we created our signature OG Winter Berries Lens Art® interpretation.

Warm and understated indoors.
Vibrant and expressive as the light evolves through Dinamica technology.

The result isn't simply a new lens.
It's a continuation of the frame's original design philosophy.

Because when a frame was designed to think differently...
its lenses should too.

What would Lens Art® interpret for your favourite frame?

Some luxury brands are recognised by a logo.

Others are recognised by a colour.
This original 1990s Tiffany T101 didn't need reinventing.

It already had an identity.
So instead of asking which lenses should we fit?

We asked a different question.
What if the lenses became part of Tiffany's story?

Inspired by Tiffany's iconic blue, we designed a bespoke gradient that respected the character of the frame before pairing it with Transitions® GEN S™ technology, allowing the colour to evolve naturally into a rich amethyst as the light changes.

Finished with a glamour anti-reflective coating, every decision was made to complement the frame rather than compete with it.

That is Lens Art®.
Not choosing lenses.
Designing them.
Every frame has a story.

What would Lens Art® create for yours?

👂 Are you finding conversations harder to follow this summer?

Busy restaurants, family BBQs, holidays and social gatherings can often be the first time we notice our hearing isn't quite as sharp as it used to be.

Some common signs it might be time for a hearing test include:
✅ Frequently asking people to repeat themselves
✅ Struggling to hear in busy or noisy places
✅ Turning the TV or radio up louder than everyone else

Hearing changes often happen gradually, making them easy to overlook. A professional hearing assessment can provide reassurance or help identify any issues early.

At The Optical Gallery, our experienced audiologists offer comprehensive hearing assessments at our practices in Cheam, Chessington and Twickenham, helping you stay connected to the conversations that matter most.

📞 If you've noticed any of these signs, why not book a hearing check and enjoy the rest of your summer with confidence?
