🐏 This Wool Month, what can you do to support British-grown wool?

To support UK sheep farmers and our textile industry, both an important part of our wool heritage, please choose British wool, and especially British-grown wool.

Ask questions about where our textiles come from. Who grew the wool? Who made the product?

Support independent producers who know their supply chains and can give you clear answers to these questions.

At The Wool Library and Farmer’s Yarn, we’re working to reconnect farmers, makers and consumers, and help build a future where British wool is valued for the amazing material we know it is.

We kicked off Wool Month in London. 🐏

First was a brilliant roundtable discussion at the Maritime Museum yesterday organised by Khadi London CIC and supported by British Council on wool and how to support its prominence and value.
Today we spent the morning at Mudchute Farm Park with Tom Davis taking rare breed sheep and meeting some of this city farm’s flock. It’s a great farming educational resource for London.

There’s just so much to talk about when it comes to British wool, farming and sheep!
We had a wonderful day today hosting visitors from the USA and Australia, sharing the story behind Lake District Tweed, The Wool Library and the farm.
It reminded me that we’re always happy to welcome groups, clubs and organisations for a visit. Whether you’re interested in textiles, farming, sustainable production or simply curious about the journey from fleece to fabric, we’d love to show you around.
If you’re planning a trip to the Lake District and are looking for something a little different, do get in touch.

Do your woollen garments need some TLC?

If so, did you know we also make this Wool Wash Bar here on the farm - ideal for hand washing your wool garments and projects.

Ingredients include lanolin and milk to soften and nourish the wool fibres, and lavender and cedar wood essential oils for a beautiful fragrance that should also deter moths.

Simply cut a small sliver of wool wash from the bar and lather it in a bowl of tepid water, add your wool item to the water and leave it to soak for 10-20 minutes.

Rinse thoroughly in cold water and lay flat to dry 🐑🧼.
