✨ Joanne’s Sewing Journey – Look What She’s Made! ✨

When Joanne first joined Lilibet Sews, she couldn’t even thread her vintage sewing machine — a machine with such a mind of its own that it’s been affectionately nicknamed “Miss Awkward.”

But Joanne never gave up. Her patience, determination, and brilliant sense of humour have carried her through every foible and wobble that Miss Awkward could throw at her and me. And just look at her now.

Her proudest make so far — and the star of today’s photo — is her gorgeous pair of paper‑bag shorts. A true milestone moment.

She’s also created:
- A beautiful envelope cushion
- A fully lined toiletry bag

And her journey continues with two exciting new projects:
- A cosy festival blanket
- A dress to wear at her daughter’s graduation in November

Watching Joanne grow from a nervous beginner to a confident, capable sewist has been an absolute joy. Her story is a reminder that with the right support, anyone can learn to sew.

🧵✨ A Lovely Surprise from Across the Pond! ✨🧵

I was absolutely delighted today to see Mood Fabrics in New York comment on my Instagram post about Louise’s upcycled blouse project. Their kind words about her transformation of a vintage embroidered tablecloth into a beautiful blouse for her daughter truly made our day.

It’s wonderful to know that Louise’s creativity — and her growing confidence through our 1‑to‑1 sewing lessons — is being noticed by such an iconic fabric store in the heart of NYC. A little bit of Warrington stitching its way into the wider world.

So proud of Louise and her gorgeous make. Upcycling really does have magic in it.

✨ Student Spotlight: Louise ✨

I’m delighted to share that this beautiful upcycling project is now finished — and it’s probably my proudest moment since launching Lilibet Sews a year ago.

Louise has been learning 1‑to‑1 with me, transforming a vintage embroidered tablecloth into a stunning blouse for her daughter.

She’s learned how to cut pattern pieces ✂️, match embroidery 🌸, and sew the collar, sleeves and loops/buttons 🧵 — growing in confidence with every stitch.

The original embroidery has been lovingly preserved, and the final touch is a sweet label inside that reads “Handmade by Mum.” 💕

A truly meaningful make.

🌿 Happy Bank Holiday Monday from Lilibet Sews 🌿

I hope you’re all enjoying a slow, gentle bank holiday — whether you’re stitching, pottering, relaxing, or simply taking a well‑earned breather.

I’ve spent a little time today working on a lovely request from a friend: transforming a rectangular tablecloth into a made to measure circular one.

Swipe through the photos to see the process — from marking out the curve to the final neat finish.

To hem the edge, I used a rolled hem foot, which made the job so much easier and gave a beautifully tidy result.

It’s always satisfying watching a flat piece of fabric become something that fits a space perfectly.
