Cedar Blessing
“Sacred Cedar, keeper of the forest,
cleanse this space and those within it.
Lift away all heaviness,
protect us as we walk this path,
remind us of the beauty of giving and receiving,
and open the way for clarity, love, and truth to flow.”
In Native American Traditions Cedar is considered one of the four sacred medicines (alongside sage, sweetgrass, and to***co). It represents protection, renewal, and the invitation of good spirits. Often used in sweat lodges and purification rituals.
In Celtic Traditions Cedar is connected to endurance and eternal life. Its evergreen nature symbolizes the cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
Cedar is known for retaining its scent long after the tree dies, which is part of why it has been so valued across cultures. Even after the wood is cut, dried, or crafted into objects, the aromatic oils inside the wood continue to release their fragrance for years, sometimes even decades.
Why does this happen?
High Concentration of Essential Oils
Cedar trees store aromatic compounds deep within the wood, not only on the surface. These oils including cedrol, thujopsene, and other terpenes stay trapped inside the wood’s fibers and are slowly released over time.
Preservation Quality
Cedar’s natural oils are also antifungal and insect repellent, which helps preserve the wood itself, keeping it intact and aromatic much longer than most trees.
Symbolic Beauty
This is one of the reasons cedar is considered the tree of endurance, memory, and longevity. Even when it ceases to live, it keeps offering its gift through scent, protection, and healing. I LOVE YOU
