Many safety shoes are installed with a stole plate in the midsole to prevent or protect against piercing injury to the foot.
There are 2 mainstream materials for such stole plate - Steel & Kevlar
Kevlar midsole offers greater flexibility when compared with steel sole plate. It is 70% lighter than steel. Also, zero response to metal detectors. The trade off is that Kevlar midsole offers lesser piercing force resistant.
Steel midsole is more economic compared to Kevlar. It provides protection against very sharp and tiny objects.
How can I tell if my safety shoes have a midsole? If it is tested with the EN20345:2011 standard, the following codes denote that your safety footwear has a midsole: S1P, S3.
