VintageHK (Saikung) is the first Vintage shop created in Hong Kong. The Founder Nadia Ying Lu first created a Vintage shop in Lamma Island in 2003 then she moved in Hong Kong Island and created Select 18 in 2007. She finally co-founded Vintage HK in 2008 with Helen Yuen.
2014 September, Nadia's niece Gum Gum take over the shop and move to Sai Kung. The hip and fun store stocks clothes, accessorie
s, lighting, furniture and gifts. It is also a consignment store offering hand-picked products from the collections of the city’s artists and designers. Vintage HK is the antidote for Hong Kong shoppers who are tired of bland designer brands and brainless shopping malls. Its products are totally unique and hard to find elsewhere. Run by a collective of Hong Kong friends with day jobs in media, entertainment and design,Vintage HK stocks products collected from their travels all over the world. Perched on top of a buzzing market slope, the store’s eye-catching shop front and interior was designed and painted by artist Nadia Ying.
“We’re in it for fun and friendship as much as anything else,” said Gum Gum. “All of us like to travel and collect beautiful things. We wanted to create a store with a strong sense of community which would be fun to visit and full of surprises. It is for people who have had enough of shopping malls and everything looking the same.
“At Vintage HK we focus on products that are beautiful, eye-catching and totally unique. We never pressure customers.”
Each of Vintage HK’s collective brings their own special skill and taste to the store. Its collaborators include architects, photographers, writers, DJs and designers. “We share the costs and work together,” added Gum Gum. “There’s no limitation to what each collaborator brings in. The only rule is that it must be striking, beautiful and exclusive.”
