Our weaving initiative was started to provide Minang women in rural villages the skills to earn an income. We also wanted their businesses to be friendly to their bodies and the communities, so we ran natural dyeing classes.
This fabric was dyed using candle bush and guava. The dyeing process takes 3 days, from collecting the items in the jungle, to extracting the beautiful colours.

The most perfect table runner, handwoven and naturally dyed using guava leaves in Sawahlunto

Motif Itiak pulang patang originates from the journey of an Itiak (duck) coming home to roost. Usually ducks walk together in the rice fields - they stick together. Returning home in ‘Patang’ means in a tight knit group that fights together to get a better life, peace and harmony. As the traditional saying goes “pai satampuah pulang sabondoang” (go in together, go home in a group). This saying illustrates the harmony of a ideal life in Minang society, always in groups, ready to support and fight for one another
