Where do labels go on scarves?

I have tiny embroidered ones from a long time ago that I rarely use.

Looking online, some hand tack/sew along the rolled edge.

But I took my own route! A corner tack, which is perfect for Loop-de-loop or just dancing around!

This scarf is going to my Mom in NY ....and so am I!

Cooking up a challenging new hat for the Galway Wool Meithal, which is on the 18th of July, in Athenry, Co Galway. Everyone is invited!

Wish me luck as there is math in a mind that thinks decimal for weight but inches for sewing.

I am combining a sewing pattern for a 1770s Calash Bonnet from the "American Duchess Guide to 18th Century Beauty" book, with the technique of felted panels sewn together with Cyanotype printed silk. The latter was how I put together my three 'windsocks' for Sculpture in Context!

Hopefully, it will be a giant Sea Bonnet....with a quirky twist - perhaps a mermaid tail.

Onwards!

Well, the sampling of this batch of wool has been done!

Verdict: Not bad; Not great.

The Plus is that I used raw/unwashed wool, which although trickier to evenly layout, means that I do not need to waste time and energy washing and carding Bag Number Three! Horrid Floppy Wool😭

The Minus, is that even the two that felted, took quite a bit of effort. A hat, because it is MUCH larger, will take even more effort.

This is part of the fun of working with a natural material that isn't coming from a shop.

Or at least, that is what I am telling myself.

I also have a stinking cold, which on the plus side isn't allergies! But on the minus side, it makes me feel more 'glass half empty' - gloomy.

Are you Messy or Neat?

Usually, I can co-exist happily with some mess in my She-Shed Studio. But it has gotten so baaaad, that there is no room for making!

I feel like I need Help Adulting as a larger workspace isn't going to magically appear from the sky!! Especially as this year, I will have an Open Studio Day as part of the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland's August Craft Month.

How do you manage your space to keep your stuff organised???

Note: The Finished Hats are NOT stored in my breezy She-Shed! Honestly, I have more hats than clothes ---> Priorities, right?

Tomorrow is Bloomsday and I have just The Hat.

My earlier 'Yes, Molly Bloom Hat' was adopted, so I made another James Joyce inspired hat.

This tapered top hat (a Pilgrim?) has a Cyanotype of the Martello Tower of the James Joyce Museum in Sandycove! There is also a quotation from the book on the tip, which I will share in my Stories.

This hat was part of and The Quilters Guild of Ireland's joint exhibition in Kilkenny, last year.

I had sort of forgotten how I had planned to do additional Special Places Near the Sea Hats! Sort of like vintage post cards, but in headwear!!

What do you think??

2nd Red Mushroom Fascinator has been hidden rather near the UCD University Club.

Find it and be part of the global phenomenon of Game of Shrooms, an annual Hide and Seek treasure hunt, where artists and makers create mushroom - inspired work and leave it for people to find (and take home)!
