Day two of Dublin Maker flew by with tons of chats about two underutilised materials: Irish Wool + Scavenged Seaweed, and how I combine them using two crafts/techniques: Nuno Felting + Cyanotype Printing.

It was a great day - although, too busy to photograph!

Visitors had the opportunity to make a Cyanotype Print on pre-prepared felted diamond-star ornaments that I had created using wool fibre from Co Wexford. Yes, these were hand felted!!

The activity proved popular!

We ran out of diamond-stars, and had to print on watercolour paper bookmarks that I had also prepared in advance! (So glad I brought these!)

Such a wonderful experience!

Sewing Tip from an Amateur Sewist: Bodkins are handy tools - much better than using a safety pin to thread cord through narrow channels!

And Merkins? According to Wikipedia: "p***c wig or an artificial hairpiece used to cover the ge***al region." It goes on to include more fun tidbits, which I will let you look up yourself.

Onwards as the week flies, as us makers, inventors, and other creative folk get ready for Dublin Maker, which is this Saturday + Sunday at the Leopardstown Racecourse in Dublin.

I am setting up to Nunofelt some Holiday Ornaments - sort of simplified stars for visitors to Cyanotype print on.

The scale is so MUCH smaller than my usual hats! I am not entirely sure if the seaweed that I have will fit.

Maybe I need a trip to the Dún Laoghaire??? I love visiting at low tide to scavenge for the cast ashore seaweed!

There is supposedly a Lunar Eclipse at 5 AM on Friday! However, the tide will be high at 6:23 AM. Not great for revealing the treasures on the shore!

There are several items without wool in my recent makes: Silk Scarves!

And no, I didn't weave the scarves or even sew their rolled edges. (Although, I did do THAT for my Galway Wool Co-op's Meitheal Calash Hat!)

However, it is a good adventure exploring Cyanotype Printing with scavenged Seaweed. I am trying out the many ways that the seaweed can dance across a rectangle.

So far,
-There's swimming from the edge to the centre,
-Swimming perpendicular to the long side,
-Having a dance at the tips (which looks nice when worn), and on and on!

So much to experiment with!

In addition to trying interesting layouts of seaweed, sewing labels on to scarves has its own new experiences.

I've decided to hand sew them on a corner. That way they're less intrusive yet still labeled.

I wouldn't want someone to be-a-wondering Where their WONDERFUL Scarf came from!

What a splendid time at today's August Craft Month workshop at my place in Dundrum!

The students learned how to cyanotype print locally scavenged seaweed onto cotton fabric, and then, how this beautiful blue textile could be combined with cream-coloured, Irish-raised wool to create Nunofelt.

It was a lot to learn in one morning, but the fantastic students dove into their projects with energy, enthusiasm, and great questions.

Each Gonfalon Pennant was made of the same materials: including .ireland 's beautiful + fast-felting, Blue-faced Leicester/Romney Wool Roving, loosely woven cotton fabric, and serrated wrack from Sandycove Beach.

Even with these same 'ingredients', each student' s piece turned out unique!

Thanks to Victoria of & .ni for all their help in organising over 600 events across 32 counties on the island.

The experience of sharing my crafts as a tutor has been amazing! More to follow!

Have you seen this Coat Hanger Hack?

Many thanks to who shared this low-tech, but useful tip: Hanger + Hair Elastic = a way for the phone to get in the perfect position for filming BUSY HANDS!

It's certainly better than putting one's phone in your bra!
