Muhurth Signatures Collection brings together some of our most accomplished weaves from our looms. Rangkat, Meenakari, Tissue, Pure Zari and a few of the other techniques that have remained closely associated with our looms over the years.

Each of these weaves demands a different skill set, years of experience and loom mastery. While they may appear entirely different in their final form, what unites them is the level of craftsmanship required to execute them at the highest standard.

The Muhurth Signatures collection brings together some of the techniques we have continued to work on and preserve across generations.

𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆.

At Muhurth, it also serves as a canvas for some of our most accomplished weaves.

Over the decades, our looms have brought to life techniques such as Rangkat, Meenakari, Korvai, Tissue and Organza Kanjivarams. Techniques that demand experience and a deep understanding of the craft.

𝙁𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙖 𝙛𝙚𝙬 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙈𝙪𝙝𝙪𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙍𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙠𝙖𝙩 𝙎𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙨.
Among them is Rangkat, one of the rarest expressions of Kanjivaram weaving. 𝘼 𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙝𝙣𝙞𝙦𝙪𝙚 𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙮, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙛𝙚𝙬. The number of artisans capable of executing it at the highest level continues to remain limited.

And when Rangkat is combined with elements such as a scallop border, the challenge increases significantly.

Every detail demands greater control on the loom, making the weave far more complex to execute. The result is a saree that stands apart not only for its beauty, but also for the rarity of the craftsmanship behind it.

These are the techniques we continue to preserve and celebrate. Not because they are easy to create, but because they represent some of the finest expressions of Kanchipuram weaving.

If you look through the wardrobes of women across Tamil Nadu, especially a generation ago, chances are you would find a Korvai Butta Kanjivaram.

A contrast Korvai border, a body filled with buttas and colours that do most of the talking. It wasn’t necessarily chosen for heavy zari or elaborate craftsmanship, but for how effortlessly it carried grandeur through colour and contrast.

The kind of saree you could wear to someone else’s wedding, a family celebration or a temple function without ever feeling overdone. Easy to wear, easy to maintain and easy to return to, can say a staple in Kanjivaram.

Brocade came and changed preferences. But this saree never left. It just waited in the shelf knowing its turn would always come back.

𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙎𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝘽𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙙

Bridal Kanjivarams have long been defined by deep reds, maroons and traditional jewel tones. Yet every generation leaves behind a few colour combinations that feel entirely its own.

This pairing of elaichi, gold and lavender belongs to that conversation.

The warmth of tissue gold, the freshness of elaichi and the quiet contrast of a lavender Paithani meenakari korvai come together to create a saree that feels celebratory without excess. Distinct enough to be remembered, yet timeless enough to be revisited years later.

A bridal statement for those who prefer presence over volume.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗮𝘁 𝗞𝗮𝗻𝗷𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺 | 𝗔 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻

Rangkat is a remarkable craftsmanship of Kanjivaram that cannot be fully conveyed on a screen. But here is an attempt we’d love to take.

In most weaves, be it Brocade or Butta or Vaira Oosi, zari is what brings out the craft. In Rangkat, the entire saree is continuously worked with multiple colours in a diagonal pattern, without a single break from start to finish.

To lay just one weft thread, the weaver must complete six to eight preparatory steps, handling each colour in sequence. This repeats across every single thread in the saree.

At Muhurth, we attempt Rangkat with a minimum of five colours simultaneously. The number of times a weaver intertwines thread to complete one Rangkat saree is approximately eight to ten times the total thread count of the saree itself.

No power loom can replicate this. Only a weaver with decades of experience can even attempt it.

We try our best to bring out its remarkability here. But we also know this will barely do it justice. If you ever get the chance to experience it in person, we promise it will be worth it.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗩𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗮 𝗢𝗼𝘀𝗶 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗢𝗼𝘀𝗶 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗺?

A fine grid running across the body is Oosi Kattam. Oosi means needle. The checks are not woven large to make a statement. They are kept fine, because that is where the craft shines in mimalism.

There is something deeply vintage about it. More than the way it feels old, it feels more settled. Like it settled at its final form a long time ago and had no reason to change.

Do you remember the first time you saw one? Tell us about it.

𝘼𝙧𝙚 𝙈𝙪𝙝𝙪𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙨𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡?

Some weaves are admired for their appearance. This one is admired for everything it took to get there.

Paithani inspired floral vines, Pichwai cow motifs and intricate Meenakari work come together on a luminous uppada weave, creating a Kanjivaram of remarkable depth and detail.

The result of over 420 𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨 at the loom, every element has been carefully considered and brought together with precision. A rare expression of craft, created for moments that deserve nothing less.
