In the deep shade of Vadamalli,
runs a quiet trail of Vaira Oosi,
thread upon thread, whispering elegance without zari.

Along the borders, florals awaken,
becoming peacocks in motion,
along with motifs that have travelled through time.

The story flows into the pallu,
where silk threads continue their song,
like a distant note of gold amidst a sea of purple.

The kili, or parrot, is among the most fascinating birds in the Indian imagination. Across literature, mythology, history, textiles, painting, poetry, and spirituality, it appears time and again, taking on meanings that shift with context and tradition.
Its symbolism is layered and nuanced, making it a remarkable presence within the Indic knowledge systems. From a messenger of love and devotion to an embodiment of wisdom, speech, and auspiciousness, the parrot's journey through our cultural memory is a rich one.
A glimpse into one such story and the enduring connection between the kili and Goddess Meenakshi of Madurai.

Some brides-to-be walk in knowing exactly what they are looking for; and within minutes, the saree finds its way to them.
Travelling all the way from Mumbai in search of a traditional vintage Kanchipuram silk saree, Samiksha and her parents were an absolute delight to host at our store. Being a designer herself, and coming from a family of textile designers, there was an instinctive clarity about the look she envisioned for her oonjal. Manjal and Arakku, two very auspicious colours came together in this korvai getti pettu, recreated from a treasured 40-year old saree.
And just like that, the final saree was chosen; timeless, traditional, and deeply her own.

Muthu Kattam - a meeting of pearls and checks, coming together to create a visually rich language that lies at the heart of South Indian design philosophy. Rendered in varying shades and woven without zari, these pure silk Kanchipuram sarees carry a quiet elegance that feels both timeless and distinctive. Woven by one of our youngest artisans, this saree holds for us many meanings beyond being just a saree - of continuity, skill, memory, and the future of handloom itself.
