February 1992, Sarita Handa turned her passion for textiles to found Sarita Handa Exports Pvt. Having traveled the length and breadth of India as an Army wife and seeing the diversity of the weaves particularly the Saree, it was love at first sight. The vision for the company was always very clear- Product Made in India, by Indian Artisans but with an International aesthetic and quality. The idea,

right from the beginning was always to ensure that the Artisans knew that they could count on us. One of the first initiatives was to adopt a village and train the women of the village in hand quilting. Hand quilting at Sarita Handa began with a community coming together. It began in the early 90’s in a village in Tughlaqabad where Mrs. Handa taught a few women the art of hand-quilting. What emerged was a new generation of women who took pride in their skill, connections and self-reliance.
