Sandur Lambani Embroidery Craft-
Lambani embroidery traces its origins to the nomadic Banjara communities of India, whose women transformed textiles into expressions of cultural identity through intricate hand embroidery, mirror work, and geometric motifs. Passed down through generations, the craft preserves stories, traditions, and artistic knowledge in every stitch.

Today, Sandur Kushala Kala Kendra in Karnataka continues to preserve and promote the heritage of Sandur Lambani Embroidery, working with over 450 tribal women artisans. Recognised with a GI Tag - GI Tag No 134_ Sandur Lambani Embroidery and honoured with the UNESCO Seal of Excellence, the craft stands as an enduring example of India's rich textile traditions—where heritage, artistry, and community empowerment come together.

Each handcrafted piece reflects the skill, dedication, and cultural legacy of the artisans who keep this centuries-old tradition alive.

In the rhythmic clatter of handlooms, a remarkable textile tradition took shape. Influenced by centuries of cultural exchange, Banarasi weaving brought together Indian craftsmanship and Persian-inspired artistry, creating fabrics of extraordinary beauty that became sought after by courts and collectors alike.

Yet the story of Banarasi silk is not only one of splendour. During the colonial era, industrially produced textiles flooded markets, pushing many handloom traditions towards decline. Countless weaving families struggled, and some intricate techniques came close to being lost forever. What survives today is a testament to the resilience of artisans who preserved their knowledge through generations, often without their names ever being recorded in history.

"Long before fabric became fashion, humans looked to nature for colour, pattern, and story."

Eco-printing is a return to that ancient relationship. Leaves, flowers, bark, and seeds are carefully gathered and pressed onto natural textiles, allowing nature to leave its own mark. No screens, no synthetic prints, no repetition—only the quiet collaboration between artisan, plant, and cloth.

Each eco-printed textile is entirely unique. The veins of a leaf, the richness of its tannins, the season in which it was gathered, and even the soil and sunlight that nurtured it become part of the final piece. What emerges is not merely a pattern, but a record of a living landscape.

Rooted in slow craftsmanship, eco-printing embraces natural fibres and plant-based colour, reducing dependence on chemical-heavy dyeing processes. It celebrates mindful production, where time, skill, and respect for resources take precedence over mass manufacture.
