Yachi Natung Calls for Stronger Support to Arunachal's Textile Sector at Bharat Tex 2026.
New Delhi, July 17: Renowned Arunachal Pradesh fashion designer and Managing Director of Tribal Pattern, Yachi Natung, has expressed both pride and disappointment after representing the state at the Bharat Tex – Global Textile Expo- 2026 through the North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Ltd. (NEHHDC).
Speaking to the media on the concluding day of the global textile exhibition, Natung said it was an honour to showcase Arunachal Pradesh's rich cultural heritage, traditional craftsmanship, and indigenous textile traditions on an international platform.
She said the expo brought together participants from across India, with each state proudly displaying its unique handloom products, textile innovations, and cultural identity. According to her, it was inspiring to witness the strong support provided by various state governments to their artisans, weavers, designers, and entrepreneurs, helping them preserve and promote their traditional crafts.
While appreciating the opportunity to represent Arunachal Pradesh, Natung expressed disappointment over the state's limited and less prominent presence at the prestigious event. She stated that despite possessing some of India's richest handloom traditions, distinctive tribal patterns, and unique indigenous craftsmanship, Arunachal Pradesh did not have the level of representation it truly deserves.
She stressed that the state's textile heritage has immense potential to gain recognition on both national and international platforms if provided with adequate institutional support.
Appealing to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Natung urged the authorities to prioritize the development of the state's textile and handloom sector by extending stronger support to artisans, weavers, designers, and entrepreneurs. She said such initiatives would not only preserve the state's traditional knowledge and cultural identity but also generate sustainable livelihood opportunities and promote Arunachal Pradesh's rich heritage to the global community.
Her remarks have drawn attention to the need for greater investment and policy support for Arunachal Pradesh's traditional textile industry, which remains an integral part of the state's cultural identity.
