What you’re seeing here is the iron application stage of Ajrak printing.
A natural iron-based paste (traditionally made using rusted iron, jaggery and water) is spread across the fabric to develop the deep black background.
In natural dyeing, colour doesn’t sit on the surface — it reacts, rests, oxidises, and deepens over time.
